The advent of generative artificial intelligence has brought unprecedented computer-generated experiences to the world and transformed many people's understanding with regard to what computers are capable of doing. Behind these experiences is an unfortunate truth: classical techniques are increasingly energy-hungry. In a new blog post, IonQ discusses how quantum computers can provide an alternative solution to classical computers when handling AI tasks, and how vacuum technology is shown to lower the energy demands of systems. Read the blog here to understand the path ahead and why solving energy demands is critical for quantum and AI’s future success.https://lnkd.in/gYaHRHqm - Today, IonQ announced a series of recently issued patents that deliver benefits across multiple industries and applications, and demonstrate IonQ’s leadership in quantum computing performance and scalability. The newly announced patents build upon IonQ’s waves of innovation and feature technical achievements like quantum circuit optimization, improved gate operations, reduced noise, error mitigation techniques, and multi-beam improvements. Today’s patents signal to the industry IonQ’s strong technical innovations and its strategic, well-considered path towards performance that provides commercial quantum advantage over classical computing. IonQ | Trapped Ion Quantum Computing ionq.com - At this year’s FDA Scientific Computing and Digital Transformation Symposium, IonQ’s Senior Director of Quantum Business Solutions Nicole Barberis spoke on a panel, following a technical presentation, with Westat’s Fatih Selekler and the FDA's Mark Walderhaug about how the combination of AI and quantum computing will transform regulatory science and uncover new possibilities in biomedical disciplines.
- Today, IonQ announced a new partnership with its longtime partners imec to develop photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and chip-scale ion trap technology for trapped ion quantum computing. Since 2021, IonQ and imec have worked to prototype and refine photonic and ion trap technologies critical to IonQ’s quantum computing roadmap. The renewed engagement includes a contract with imec to fabricate passive PICs and ion traps later this year and into 2026. The new technologies are expected to have a profound impact on IonQ’s ability to increase the computational power of its quantum computers through the co-development of compact and high-performance electro-optical systems. IonQ | Trapped Ion Quantum Computing ionq.com - IonQ has announced a partnership with NKT Photonics – a subsidiary of Hamatsu Photonics – to procure next-generation laser systems for IonQ’s trapped-ion quantum computers and networking equipment. The partnership will see NKT Photonics designing and delivering three prototype optical subsystems to IonQ in 2025, with each designed to integrate with IonQ’s data center-ready quantum computers. NKT Photonics’ laser systems provide a clear advantage in performance, cost, lead time, and SWAP (size, weight, and power), making them an ideal technology choice for addressing IonQ’s laser wavelength and power requirements. IonQ | Trapped Ion Quantum Computing ionq.com - Earlier this week, IonQ’s John Gamble and Nicolas Delfosse were in Austin, TX, presenting at MICRO 2024. Their workshops let participants learn in person or virtually how emerging quantum systems enable and expand novel Computer Systems Research (CSR) opportunities and promote cross-disciplinary collaborations. During the NSF Workshop on Quantum Operating Systems and Real-Time Control (QuantumOS), Delfosse shared more about the potential of partial quantum error correction schemes like the CliNR scheme. Gamble spoke at the StableQ Workshop about modeling the performance of IonQ’s large-scale quantum computers. #quantum #quantumcomputing
- Thanks Riverlane for including IonQ Principal Researcher Nicolas Delfosse's thoughts on quantum error correction in their inaugural Quantum Error Correction Report 2024! There is a lot of great progress being made in the space, and IonQ is proud to be recognized for its partial quantum error correction and error mitigation contributions.
