Orange County Civil Engineering is excited to announce that the parking structure at Pepperdine University has been granted occupancy just in time for Pepperdine’s Malibu campus to resume in-person classes beginning today. The 831 new parking spaces are greatly needed, especially with Pepperdine’s participation in emergency efforts due to the Palisades Fire. To propel response and recovery efforts, Pepperdine has offered its Malibu campus as a strategic staging site for local fire relief. The City of Malibu’s Emergency Operations Committee temporarily operated from campus after being displaced from City Hall due to the fires. The University also welcomed SoCalGas to establish its incident command center at the Malibu campus, providing workers nearby proximity to neighborhoods impacted by the Palisades Fire. These photos were taken a few days before the Palisades Fire began. With 23,713 acres burned nearby, the parking structure was not directly damaged by either the Palisades Fire or the Franklin Fire. The second photo shows ash from the Franklin Fire that was halted across the street from where the parking structure stands. Thank you to all the brave firefighters and volunteers who continue to fight this devastation, bringing the Palisades Fire to 59% containment as of yesterday morning.#kpff #civilengineering #losangelescounty #constructionindustry #engineering #malibu #california #pepperdine #pepperdineuniversity #palisadesfire #franklinfire
