About us

The Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) is a wholesale water supplier and resource planning agency whose efforts focus on sound planning and appropriate investments in water supply development, water use efficiency, public information, legislative advocacy, water education and emergency preparedness. Established in 1951, MWDOC now serves nearly 3.2 million Orange County residents through 28 retail water agencies. MWDOC’s service area covers all of Orange County with the exception of the cities of Anaheim, Fullerton and Santa Ana.

Did you know? This year marks a significant milestone for Orange County’s beloved water drop, as Ricky the Rambunctious Raindrop℠ celebrates 50 years of water education. Since Ricky first made a splash in 1974, he has continued to educate and engage generations of water users about the importance of good water stewardship. . Building a stronger water future for Orange County! MWDOC recently kicked off a collaborative workshop series on future imported Water Quality and Operations Management for Orange County, with over 60 managers and senior water operators from Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, MWDOC, and local water providers. Subject matter experts Ed Means, Means Consulting, and Dr. Issam Najm, WQTS, led discussions on integrated imported water systems as well as water aging and nitrification issues.
