About us
Rigetti Computing is building the world’s most powerful computers to help solve humanity’s most pressing and important problems. These systems will perform computations that today’s fastest supercomputers are incapable of — unlocking entirely new classes of problems and offering a direct path to solutions. We believe quantum computing is going to significantly affect health care, how we treat disease, how we generate energy, and how we feed humanity. Our superconducting quantum computing systems are available over the cloud via Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services. We were founded in 2013 by Chad Rigetti. We are located in Berkeley and Fremont, California, and have employees based all over the world.

Today Rigetti announced the public launch of its 84-qubit Ankaa™-3 system. Ankaa-3 is Rigetti’s newest flagship quantum computer featuring an extensive hardware redesign that enables superior performance. Rigetti also celebrates major two-qubit gate fidelity milestones with Ankaa-3: successfully halving error rates in 2024 to achieve a median 99.0% iSWAP gate fidelity, as well as demonstrating 99.5% median fidelity fSim gates. Ankaa-3 is now available to its partners via the Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services platform (QCS®) and will be coming to Amazon Braket and Microsoft Azure in the first quarter of 2025. Users will be able to operate these higher fidelity and universal iSWAP gates for a wide range of algorithmic research, with a median gate time of 72 nanoseconds. The faster (median 56 nanoseconds), more specialized fSim gates are useful for specific algorithms such as random circuit sampling, as recently demonstrated on Google’s Willow system. Learn more about Rigetti's newest system and the technology enhancements made across the technology stack in our press release: https://lnkd.in/eEPGaV-e - ICYMI: Rigetti was proud to take part in NVIDIA’s first-ever Quantum Day at #GTC25 last month. Rigetti CEO Dr. Subodh Kulkarni joined industry leaders on stage for a robust conversation about the future of quantum computing. Moderated by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, the discussion explored how quantum computing could transform the way we solve some of the world’s toughest challenges. Fault-tolerant quantum computing will likely require 10,000 to a million physical qubits. Scaling these systems is challenging because they require bulky microwave components with high thermal loads that can quickly overwhelm the cooling power of a dilution refrigerator, a core component of a superconducting quantum computing system. Optical signals, on the other hand, have a considerably smaller footprint and negligible thermal conductivity. We’re pleased to share that our joint paper with Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and University of Chicago, “Coherent control of a superconducting qubit using light,” has been published in Nature Physics. This paper details how we integrated a hybrid microwave-optical quantum transducer with a Rigetti-fabricated superconducting qubit. This hybrid set-up enables optical control of the qubit, removing the need for coax lines altogether. Successfully connecting a superconducting qubit to an optical system is a promising step towards scaling to higher qubit count systems necessary for fault tolerance. Quantum Benchmarking Initiative Begins Stage A! More than a dozen quantum computing companies are entering Stage A of the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI), and now the real fun begins! 🎢 Over the next six months, these teams will provide comprehensive technical details in a quest to prove their quantum tech has what it takes to build a game-changing, fault-tolerant quantum computer within the next decade. Superconducting qubits? Trapped ions? Photonic systems? They’re bringing it all. Stage A is a high-stakes quantum sprint—who will rise to the challenge and make it through to the next round? Stay tuned! 🔥⚛️ To learn more please visit: https://lnkd.in/ggXXmrgT*Edited to include #s#QuantumBenchmarkingInitiative #Qubits
- We are thrilled to announce that Rigetti was selected to participate in Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)’s Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI)! The objective of DARPA’s QBI program is to verify and validate that quantum computing can achieve utility-scale operation by 2033. Rigetti will advance to Stage A, a 6-month performance period focused on our utility-scale quantum computer (USQC) concept that combines our proprietary multi-chip architecture with scalable quantum error correction (QEC) codes. We’ll be collaborating with Riverlane on this project, who will be leveraging their QEC expertise to help refine our USQC concept and validate the underlying technology. “Rigetti has spent the last decade developing the IP and expertise needed to build and deliver high-performing quantum computers. The DARPA QBI sets out to prove a realistic path to quantum utility, which we believe we are well positioned to deliver,” says Dr. Subodh Kulkarni, Rigetti CEO. “The DARPA QBI program is closely aligned with Rigetti's technology roadmap, which includes building out our QEC capabilities and developing fault-tolerant architectures.” https://lnkd.in/ecH38VyC

David Rivas, CTO of Rigetti Computing joined me to discuss Rigetti’s approach to building superconducting quantum computers. He highlights the company’s full-stack capabilities, including its captive quantum fab and proprietary control systems, emphasizing the advantages of vertical integration for optimizing performance. David explains Rigetti’s chiplet-based approach to scaling quantum processors, a key strategy for achieving large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing. He also introduces the Novara QPU, a modular 9-qubit system designed for flexibility and interoperability with third-party hardware and software. The conversation covers the evolution of quantum computing architectures, Rigetti’s move to 3D signaling for better qubit connectivity, and the role of logical qubits in scaling quantum processors. David reflects on the importance of continued hands-on experimentation, comparing today’s quantum computing landscape to the early days of classical computing. He also shares insights into the challenges of being a public company, the necessity of clear technical progress over short-term sales metrics, and the impact of emerging error correction techniques on the industry.
