About us
WRA is an environmental consultancy that’s making a net positive impact. As a tenacious team of planners, engineers, and scientists, we believe in leaving the lands we love better than we found them. We partner with public agencies, non-profits, and private entities on multidiscipline projects in a variety of markets. From planning and design, through entitlement and post-construction, we have your back. Our clients lean on us to navigate them through tricky projects and achieve benefits for both the natural environment and local communities. From our roots in wetland research and supporting our first clients in the Bay Area following the inception of the federal Clean Water Act, we have more than 40 years of experience in California's diverse ecoregions. This gives us an understanding of the unique habitats throughout the state and the growing needs of local communities. While our roots are in California, we have supported clients in nearly 30 states and counting. WRA is proud to be an employee-owned, certified small business (SB-PW ref. #13333) with 100 team members working from four offices in California, and a growing distributed workforce throughout the West.

WRA Landscape Restoration (WRA-LR) recently completed a project for the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD), which created a 6.2-acre shaded fuel break and removed invasive French broom (Genista monspessulana). The work was conducted in the Garland Ranch Regional Park adjacent to homes and public trails along East Garzas Road in Carmel Valley, California. WRA-LR crew members used masticators, chainsaws, pole saws, and weed whips to achieve project goals: reduce fuel hazards, increase forest and vegetation community resilience, and manage invasive plant species. Funding for this work was derived from a State Coastal Conservancy Wildfire Resilience Grant awarded to MPRPD. WRA-LR is proud to support critical wildfire resilience projects like these for our local communities! - WRA is honored to support the JMT Wilderness Conservancy, Inyo National Forest, and North Fork Mono Tribe for this important program for the Reds Meadow Valley. We are excited to collaborate and provide expertise in ecological and habitat restoration, including the contributions of key staff members Matt Richmond and Cody Lambrecht, who have been working on the early stages of this project. We are excited to roll up our sleeves and get to work on public access improvements and ecological restoration as this important program takes shape!
Campground renovation IS meadow restoration. In collaboration with the Inyo National Forest, the JMT Wilderness Conservancy is excited to unveil a comprehensive four-year renovation project aimed at protecting the vital ecosystems of Reds Meadow Valley! We're partnering with Tribal leaders from North Fork Mono Tribe and working closely with WRA, Inc. Starting in 2025, this project will restore 5 public campgrounds, a public amphitheater, and a scenic interpretive trail, all located along 6 miles of the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River. Over the past 50 years, these sites have organically grown, accommodating over 900 visitors daily. Unfortunately, this has led to significant erosion, meadow damage, and impacts on drainage and watersheds. Our carefully developed master plan will relocate campsites to more sustainable locations, while restoring surrounding meadows and riparian zones to protect these critical ecosystems. We look forward to sharing progress and continuing our work in ensuring a balanced and sustainable future for both the land and its visitors.#inyonationalforest #environmentalconservation #easternsierra Town of Mammoth Lakes - Congratulations to WRA Restoration Ecology Director, Ashley Zavagno, CERP, CSE for earning her Senior Ecology certification from The Ecological Society of America!

- Big news! Congratulations to Berkeley Fire Dept on this achievement - we can’t wait to see the positive impact! WRA, Inc. is thrilled to have supported Berkeley Fire both in helping launch the Resident Assistance Program (RAP) and the grant proposal to scale it. In addition, they have been awarded a CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention grant and WRA is proud to be part of the collaborative efforts driving this forward.
Love this quote: "... all of this points to a community that is beginning to believe that their best chance of survival of their property is not luck, or insurance, or anything other than the work they do to create a resilient community." Solid article on all the hard work the team at Berkeley Fire and the residents are doing to help reduce their wildfire risk. It takes a full systems approach to change risk in the community but this is how we do it.David Sprague Shanalee Gallagher, MPP Christopher Anthony Frank Frievalt Brendan Devlin
Dispatch from Berkeley wildfire season: Cut, whack, yank, dig, repeat berkeleyscanner.com - Happy #FieldFriday! The WRA Landscape Restoration crew completed a habitat restoration project for a park near the Marina Lagoon for the City of San Mateo Department of Public Works. After hand clearing non-native invasive iceplant (Carpobrotus edulis) along the shoreline, the crew revegetated the site with native plant coast scrub species including Coyote bush (Baccharis pilularis), California sagebrush (Artemisia californica), California buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum), Silver lupine (Lupinus albifrons), and Coffeeberry (Frangula californica). This project is a great example of how cities and park districts can enhance the health of the lands with native plants to provide habitat and enhance the landscape for the public.
