De Wilgers, Pretoria
De Wilgers, sometimes also referred to as Die Wilgers, lies wedged between Lynnwood Road and the N4 to the east of the centre of Pretoria, ideal for getting around the Jacaranda City and for a quick getaway, either into or out of the city.
You are in good company when staying in De Wilgers. Surrounding suburbs in the sought-after eastern suburbs of the city include Lynnwood Glen, Menlyn, Faerie Glen, Lynnwood Ridge and Willow Glen - all of them tree-lined and peaceful with upmarket properties that range from large double-storey homes to townhouse complexes. De Wilgers also lies in an area filled with green spaces. Both Faerie Glen Nature Reserve and tea garden, an ideal spot for a bird-rich afternoon tea, and the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens, which lies just off the N4 close to Brummeria and offers a complete escape within a haven of trees, pathways and gardens - lovely for picnics and afternoon meanders - are close by.
One is also conveniently close to a number of 'must see' tourist spots like the Voortrekker Monument, Union Buildings and Jan Smuts House, all roughly 10 kilometres or so from the De Wilgers.
On the south side of Lynnwood Road, south east of De Wilgers, lie the Bronberge, one of 20 ridges to occur in the Pretoria area that also include the Magaliesberg and Meintjieskop. This particular ridge is the most sensitive of these that provides a distinct atmosphere to this part of the city; a place where highveld meets bushveld.
There is a surprising country-feel to this part of Pretoria, and the Bronberg Meander caters for those who don't want to head out as far as the Magaliesberg to experience a collection of artists' galleries, craft and gifts, nurseries and workshops.
