Erasmuskloof, Pretoria
Nestled in amongst Waterkloof Ridge, Waterkloof Heights and Newlands, Erasmuskloof lies on the other side of the N1 from Waterkloof, in an area where you can still buy vacant land on which to build, yet your access to and from both Pretoria and Centurion are excellent, and OR Tambo airport is but 20 minutes' away.
Whilst Erasmuskloof is one of the newer south eastern suburbs of Pretoria, given over to a number of townhouse complexes and typical suburban homes, it is also obvious that Waterkloof has influenced the sizes of properties here. Some houses are set on estates, their double storey extremeties extending well into mansion proportions, whilst the leafy tranquility of the suburb is welcome.
Brooklyn and Menlyn shopping centres are both within easy reach of Erasmuskloof, there are more than a few excellent restaurants close by, and both the Wingate Park and Waterkloof golf courses are close enough for an easy afternoon round of golf.
Faerie Glen Nature Reserve and its accompanying Plumbago tea garden are a welcome respite over weekends. Just to the south of Lynwood Road, this is a wonderful venue at which to sit a while and spot the odd crested barbet, canary or hammerkop. And there are a couple of hikes to get the blood pounding too.
Similarly the National Botanical Gardens are just on the other side of Lynnwood, and perfect for picnics, meanders and a general sense of wellbeing. Erasmuskloof is equally well situated to reach a fair number of tourist highlights in Pretoria too, like the Voortrekker Monument, Church Square, and the National Zoological Gardens.
