Eine Ad-hoc-Hypothese ist eine Hilfshypothese, die ad hoc, also für einen Einzelfall, aufgestellt wird, um Beobachtungen oder kritischen Argumenten zu begegnen, welche die angegriffene Theorie falsifizieren könnten. Der Begriff geht auf den österreichisch-britischen Wissenschaftstheoretiker Karl Popper zurück.
