The Bay of Plenty (Māori: Te Moana-a-Toi) is a region of New Zealand, situated around a bight of the same name in the northern coast of the North Island. The bight stretches 260 km from the Coromandel Peninsula in the west to Cape Runaway in the east. The Bay of Plenty Region, governed by the Bay of Plenty Regional Council, incorporates several large islands in the bay, in addition to the mainland area. Called Te Moana-a-Toi (the Sea of Toi) in the Māori language after Toi, an early ancestor, the name 'Bay of Plenty' was bestowed by James Cook in 1769 when he noticed the abundant food supplies at several Māori villages there, in stark contrast to observations he had made earlier in Poverty Bay. Zatoka Obfitości (ang. Bay of Plenty) – zatoka na północnym wybrzeżu Wyspy Północnej w Nowej Zelandii. Rozciąga się od podstawy półwyspu Coromandel na zachodzie do przylądka na wschodzie. Należy do Oceanu Spokojnego (Basen Południowofidżyjski). Linia brzegowa zatoki, długości blisko 260 km, w skali makro jest znacznie wyrównana. Brzegi zatoki od Waihi Beach na zachodzie do w ogromnej większości są niskie. Wzdłuż nich ciągną się pasy wydm, rozdzielane estuariami rzek spływających do zatoki. W kilku miejscach utworzyły się rozległe, płytkie zalewy przybrzeżne, oddzielone od oceanu mierzejami. Największe z nich to zalew koło Tauranga i drugi koło Whakatane. Poza pasem wydm nizinne tereny przybrzeżne były pierwotnie pokryte mokradłami, dziś w większości osuszonymi. Wyższe brzegi, często skaliste, spotkamy we wschodniej części zatoki, od Opape do Cape Runaway, gdzie do oceanu schodzą odnogi pasma górskiego . I tu jednak są one gęsto poprzedzielane mniejszymi, zwykle płytko wciętymi zatokami z piaszczystymi plażami. Estende-se de ocidente a oriente, da Península de Coromandel até ao , e para sul até às áreas florestais próximas a Rotorua e . Deve o seu nome a James Cook, após reparar nas abundantes reservas de alimentos dos povoados maori locais, em contraste com as suas observações anteriores na . A sua população em 2013 era de 267.741 habitantes, a quinta região mais populosa e a terceira em densidade populacional, apesar de ser uma das mais pequenas do país. É uma das áreas que apresentam maior crescimento populacional — 7,5% entre 2001 e 2006, a maior parte concentrada nas zonas costeiras e ocidentais. Os maiores centros populacionais são Tauranga, Rotorua e . Importantes indústrias de horticultura, silvicultura e turismo estão consolidadas na região. No entanto, conta-se entre as mais desfavorecidas economicamente na Nova Zelândia, com os distritos orientais entre os menos desenvolvidos da região.
