- Chipknip (a portmanteau of chip card and knip, Dutch for purse) was a stored-value payment card system used in the Netherlands. Based on the Belgian Proton system, it was started by Interpay on October 26, 1995, as a pilot project in the city of Arnhem and a year later rolled out countrywide. Chipknip was taken over by Currence due to a restructuring on May 17, 2005, who managed it with their licensees until its discontinuation on January 1, 2015. The Chipknip was primarily used for small retail transactions, as the card could contain a maximum value of 500 euros. The money needed to be transferred from a card holders main bank account using a loading station which were generally located next to ATMs. In 1996, The Postbank left the Chipknip project and started the Chipper project with other organisations such as PTT Telecom to compete with the Chipknip until 2001, when it merged into the Chipknip system. Its peak was in 2010, when a total of 178 million transactions were made. Since its discontinuation, contactless payments without pin code for small transactions using Maestro or V Pay have largely become the norm. (en)
- Chipknip est le système de porte-monnaie électronique utilisé aux Pays-Bas. Le système est le plus souvent adossé à une carte de débit mais il est aussi possible d'acheter des cartes contenant un solde de 20 et 50 euros contre une somme de 23 et 53 euros. Sur les cartes de débit, on peut recharger le chipknip d'un montant de 5 à 250 euros. De nombreux commerçants l'ont néanmoins supprimé de leurs modes de paiement, car il leur coûte plus cher que le pin, où le client doit introduire son code secret. Aux Pays-Bas, les verbes chippen et pinnen signifient respectivement payer par porte-monnaie électronique et payer par carte de débit immédiat.Le système a été introduit en 1996 et repose sur la même technologie que son homologue belge nommé Proton, supprimé en janvier 2015. - Chipknip was een Nederlandse elektronische portemonnee van Currence in de vorm van een chip op een bankkaart. Hij bestond van 1996 tot 2015 en was een variant van de Belgische Proton-kaart. De Chipknip kon sinds april 2013 alleen soms nog gebruikt worden op locaties waar niet gepind kan worden, bijvoorbeeld in bedrijfskantines en parkeerautomaten. Sinds 1 januari 2015 is het niet meer mogelijk om met een Chipknip te betalen. Het woord Chipknip staat voor: chip zoals die gebruikt wordt in een chipkaart, en knip voor portemonnee. Inmiddels is er een alternatieve vorm van elektronisch betalen zonder intoetsen van de pincode: contactloos betalen. (nl)
