Iprindol ist ein Arzneistoff aus der Gruppe der trizyklischen Antidepressiva. Das Indolderivat Iprindol wirkt als 5-HT2-Antagonist und indirekter β2-Agonist. Daneben wirkt es schwach anticholinerg und antihistaminisch. Einen Einfluss auf die Wiederaufnahme von Noradrenalin hat es nicht. Von der antidepressiven Wirkung soll es genauso effektiv sein wie Imipramin. In einer weiteren Studie wurde festgestellt, dass Iprindol im Gegensatz zu anderen trizyklischen Antidepressiva und MAO-Hemmern den REM-Schlaf nicht beeinflussen soll. (de)
Iprindole, sold under the brand names Prondol, Galatur, and Tertran, is an atypical tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that has been used in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the treatment of depression but appears to no longer be marketed. It was developed by Wyeth and was marketed in 1967. The drug has been described by some as the first "second-generation" antidepressant to be introduced. However, it was very little-used compared to other TCAs, with the number of prescriptions dispensed only in the thousands. (en)
L'iprindolo, conosciuto anche con il nome di pramindolo, è un antidepressivo triciclico che possiede le stesse azioni farmacologiche ed indicazioni della amitriptilina, rispetto alla quale possiede minore attività anticolinergica e sedativa. L'iprindolo è stato il secondo antidepressivo triciclico ad essere stato commercializzato. Rispetto alla maggior parte degli altri antidepressivi tricilici, l'iprindolo è unico poiché è un inibitore relativamente debole della ricaptazione della serotonina e noradrenalina, mentre invece agisce prevalentemente come un antagonista dei recettori 5-HT2: per queste sue peculiarità è stato considerato un antidepressivo di "seconda generazione".
