Jean-Pierre Chouteau (10 October 1758 – 10 July 1849) was a French Creole fur trader, merchant, politician, and slaveholder. An early settler of St. Louis from New Orleans, he became one its most prominent citizens. He and his family were prominent in establishing the fur trade in the city, which became the early source of its wealth. In 1975, he was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Jean-Pierre et son demi-frère Auguste-Pierre Chouteau, connus sous le nom de « barons de rivière », s'adaptent aux nombreux changements politiques qui surviennent dans cette ville lors de sa transition de la Louisiane (Nouvelle-Espagne) à sa formation comme partie intégrante des États-Unis. Ils ne cessent pas de créer des alliances politiques avec de nombreux groupes.
