La Mars Society és una organització sense ànim de lucre estatunidenca dedicada a la promoció de l'exploració humana i l'assentament del planeta Mart, impulsada per voluntaris de tot el món. Inspirada per les conferències "The Case for Mars" organitzades per The Mars Underground a la Universitat de Colorado Boulder, la Mars Society va ser fundada pel Dr. Robert Zubrin i altres el 1998 amb l'objectiu d'educar el públic, els mitjans de comunicació i el govern sobre els beneficis de l'exploració de Mart, la importància de planificar una missió d'humans a Mart a les properes dècades i la necessitat de crear una presència humana permanent al planeta vermell.

Konferencja założycielska odbyła się na Uniwersytecie Kolorado, z udziałem kilkuset osób z czterdziestu krajów, w tym z Polski. Oprócz spraw organizacyjnych omawiano kwestie techniki kosmicznej i nauk okołomarsjańskich, zagadnienia polityczne, ekonomiczne i prawne, a także kulturalne i narodowościowe aspekty badania i zasiedlania Marsa. Cele te mają być osiągnięte poprzez informowanie i popularyzowanie wiedzy o Marsie, technice potrzebnej do jego osiągnięcia i naukach stosowanych, takich jak psychologia, geologia, budownictwo czy rolnictwo. Budowane są prototypy łazików oraz hermetycznych pojazdów marsjańskich dla ludzi. Inne projekty dotyczą balonów w marsjańskiej atmosferze oraz życia ssaków w obniżonej grawitacji. Członkami Mars Society jest wielu inżynierów i managerów NASA i JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), ludzi kultury, mediów i najróżniejszych zawodów. Istnieją oddziały narodowe.
