Sir Michael Niko Jones KNZM (* 8. April 1965 in Auckland, Neuseeland) ist ein ehemaliger neuseeländischer Rugby-Union-Spieler, der heute als Trainer tätig ist. Er wurde auf der Position des Flügelstürmers und der Nummer Acht eingesetzt. Jones, der teilweise samoanischer Abstammung ist, gilt neben Colin Meads und Sean Fitzpatrick als einer der besten neuseeländischen Rugbyspieler aller Zeiten. Sein größter Erfolg war der Gewinn des Weltmeistertitels 1987. Jones' Spitzname lautet „Iceman“ – einerseits aufgrund seines von Coolness geprägten Auftretens, aber vor allem auch wegen der vielen kleinen Verletzungen, die mit Eisbeuteln behandelt werden mussten. Sir Michael Niko Jones KNZM (born 8 April 1965) is a New Zealand former rugby union player and coach. Jones was a member of the Auckland team which dominated New Zealand rugby in the late 1980s and 1990s, and the Auckland Blues team which won the first two Super 12 championships, in 1996 and 1997. He played once for Western Samoa, and 55 times for New Zealand, including winning the first Rugby World Cup in 1987. He was known for his Christian beliefs, which meant he chose not to play on Sundays. He was named by Rugby World magazine as the third best All Black of the 20th century after Colin Meads and Sean Fitzpatrick. John Hart, who first selected him for Auckland, called him "almost the perfect rugby player". After retiring as a player, he served as coach of Samoa from 2004 to 2007. He was knighted in 2017 for services to the Pacific community and youth. (en)

La'auli Michael Niko Jones (Auckland, 8 aprile 1965) è un ex rugbista a 15, allenatore di rugby a 15 e imprenditore neozelandese, per 11 anni terza linea degli All Blacks, con cui si laureò campione del mondo nel 1987. Fu nove volte campione interprovinciale neozelandese con la formazione di Auckland e due volte campione del Super Rugby con la franchise professionistica dei Blues; nonostante la lunga militanza internazionale, vanta solo 55 test match per via del suo credo religioso nel rispetto del quale non scendeva in campo di domenica.Da allenatore guidò la Nazionale samoana alla Coppa del Mondo di rugby 2007 e dal 2011 è imprenditore nel ramo della ristorazione. Ritenuto tra i migliori rugbisti di tutti i tempi, e votato terzo miglior internazionale di sempre della Nuova Zelanda, nel 2003 fu ammesso nell'International Rugby Hall of Fame. (it)
