The Philippine Army was established on December 21, 1935, as the Army of the Philippines, with a general headquarters in Manila, and units and formations based throughout the provinces of the Philippines. The Philippine Army was initially organized under the National Defense Act of 1935 (Commonwealth Act No. 1) that formally created the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Certain components of the Armed Forces of the Philippines were under the control of the United States Army Forces in the Far East (USAFFE) from 1941 to 1946, after the entry of the U.S. into World War II.

Fue fundada el 21 de diciembre de 1935 en el cuartel general en Manila. Durante la ocupación japonesa en la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1942-1945) los remanentes del Ejército Mancomunitario auxilió a las tropas locales de la Policía de Filipinas, unidades guerrilleras y fuerzas de liberación de EEUU contra las tropas japonesas. Los comandantes generales del Ejército de la Mancomunidad Filipina incluyeron al Mayor General José J.
