On se souvient de lui comme disciple de Georg Joachim Rheticus, dont il poursuit le monumental travail d'établissement de tables trigonométriques suffisamment précises, en particulier pour l'astronomie de l'époque, tables qu'il publie en 1596. Le travail de Rheticus et Otho ne sera véritablement achevé qu'au début du XVIIe siècle par Bartholomeus Pitiscus.
