Witchetty grub é um termo usado na Austrália para larvas comestíveis de várias mariposas. Especialmente se aplica à larva da mariposa , que se alimenta das raízes do arbusto Acacia kempeana, encontrado na Austrália central.

Das Wort witchetty entstammt der Sprache der Adnyamathanha, einem im Nordosten Südaustraliens beheimateten Stamm der Aborigines. Es setzt sich aus „krummer Zweig“ (wityu) und „Larve“ (vartu) zusammen. In particular, it applies to the larvae of the cossid moth Endoxyla leucomochla, which feeds on the roots of the witchetty bush (after which the grubs are named) that is widespread throughout the Northern Territory and also typically found in parts of Western Australia and South Australia, although it is also found elsewhere throughout Australia. The term may also apply to larvae of other cossid moths, ghost moths (Hepialidae), and longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae). The term is used mainly when the larvae are being considered as food. The grub is the most important insect food of the desert and has historically been a staple in the diets of Aboriginal Australians. Ogólnie, choć niejednoznacznie i niedokładnie, termin ten używany jest do określenia wszystkich, dużych, białych larw owadów które są uważane za jadalne. Larwy są bardzo ważną, bogatą w proteiny częścią diety Aborygenów, szczególnie kobiet i dzieci. Zazwyczaj są one wyszukiwane właśnie przez kobiety i dzieci. Pomimo różnic gatunkowych larwy "witchetty" smakują bardzo podobnie, można je jeść na surowo lub lekko podsmażone w gorącym popiele ogniska. Mają smak zbliżony do migdałów, przypieczona skóra przypomina konsystencją skórę smażonego kurczaka, a wnętrze larwy po obróbce termicznej wygląda podobnie jak smażone jajko. Jedząc surowe larwy należy im "odkręcić" głowy i wycisnąć zawartość wnętrza do ust, pieczone larwy mogą być jedzone w całości. W różnych postaciach larwy "witchetty" występują w obrazach opartych na aborygeńskiej mitologii czasu snu.
