The full list of candidates standing in the general election 2017 for Bristol (original) (raw)
The deadline for nomination submissions has passed, and we can now reveal the full list of general election candidates standing in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES).
Some 46 political hopefuls have thrown their hats in to the ring, vying to be elected on June 8.
The Conservatives, Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party are fielding candidates in all ten seats in and around Bristol.
UKIP has massively drawn back on its 2015 showing by only putting forward two candidate across the region in Bristol South and North East Somerset.
That means all the Bristol and South Gloucestershire seats will be left without UKIP candidates.
A party spokesperson said UKIP was putting country before party and urged voters to back the Tories.
As expected, the speed of the snap election appears to have put off many independent candidates from running.
However, Bristol South will have an independent representative in former porn producer John Langley – also known as Johnny Rockhard - and North Somerset and North East Somerset will see independents Donald Davies and Shaun Hughes stand respectively.
Bristol West will also see Jodian Rodgers stand for the intriguingly named Money Free Party Resources Shared Equitably.
For Labour the challenge will be to hold its three Bristol seats. Both the Green Party and the Lib Dems are targeting Bristol West and the Conservatives have made it known that they want to take Bristol East.
After days of speculation Lib Dem Stephen Williams revealed he is putting himself forward again for the Bristol West seat. It comes after he was voted out in 2015 and came third in the race to become the West of England's first Metro Mayor at the beginning of May.
It appears unlikely many of the North Somerset or South Gloucestershire seat will be taken from the Tories, although it is possible Thornbury and Yate could fall back to the Lib Dems.
Here are all of the candidates standing across the Bristol region on June 8.
