Redeployed to Luzon 1942-2, where it carried out the assault on Corregidor. Returned to Japan 1943-8, and redeployed to Sumatra 1944-8 and Thailand 1944-12.

The division became so accustomed to garrison life on the Yunnan border that the soldiers began to think and act like immigrant settlers.
