Lady Mary Catherine Sackville-West was born on 23 July 1824.2 She was the daughter of George John Sackville-West, 5th Earl De La Warr and Elizabeth Sackville-West, Baroness Buckhurst of Buckhurst.1 She married, firstly, James Brownlow William Gascoyne-Cecil, 2nd Marquess of Salisbury, son of James Cecil, 1st Marquess of Salisbury and Lady Emily Mary Hill, on 29 April 1847.1 She married, secondly, Edward Henry Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby, son of Edward Geoffrey Smith-Stanley, 14th Earl of Derby and Hon. Emma Caroline Bootle-Wilbraham, on 5 July 1870.1,2 She died on 6 December 1900 at age 76.1
After her marriage, Lady Mary Catherine Sackville-West was styled as Marchioness of Salisbury on 29 April 1847. From 29 April 1847, her married name became Gascoyne-Cecil.1 From 5 July 1870, her married name became Stanley. After her marriage, Lady Mary Catherine Sackville-West was styled as Countess of Derby on 5 July 1870.
