About the Author Study and Index

The Study and Index contains links, indexed by author name, to articles and essays published online in Resource Library. Each Resource Library article or essay is identified by the date of publication in parentheses following title and author information and is presented with a hyperlink to the text. An example is Indiana Realities: Regionalist Painting 1930-1945 from the Robert L. and Ellen E. Haan Collection; essay by Rachel Berenson Perry (8/19/11) All of the articles and essays relate to American representational art.

By the close of 2016, Resource Library had published online 1,383 articles, essays and scripts written by hundreds of listed authors and playwrights. From 2017 forward, we ceased seeking or accepting additional articles and essays for inclusion in Resource Library. Please see submitting materialsfor more information.

For each author of an article or essay published in American Art, American Art Journal, American Art Review, The Art Bulletin, Art Journal and The Magazine Antiques during the Study Periods there are listed the related issue numbers - and in many cases - links to texts published outside of Resource Library.

The Study and Index also lists authors with essays in selected exhibition catalogues in the context of Special Projects.

Academic journals employ single or double blind peer review processes prior to publication. We, on the other hand, are an online publisher able to provide world-wide, permanent, post-publication criticism by all persons. We offer a free and fair mechanism for criticism of facts in all published texts. Also, we leave it to our readers to judge the competence of authors.

Permissions from sources

When Resource Library published over time more than one article concerning an institution, there was created as an additional resource for readers a sub-index page containing links to each Resource Library article or essay concerning that institution, plus available information on its location and other descriptive information. .

Unless specifically described in editor's notes or headers within Resource Library or Resource Library Magazine pages containing articles and essays by named authors, such materials were published in 1997 through 2016 by either permission of a named institutional source within the Art Museum, Gallery and Art Center index, an author within the Author Study and Index, or a non-institutional source. In some cases, both the source and author provided permissions.

Permissions, in most instances, were provided by institutional sources specifically identified within the article or essay pages. As noted above, when Resource Library or Resource Library Magazine published over time more than one article or essay concerning an institution, it created, as an additional resource for readers, a sub-index page containing links to each Resource Library or Resource Library Magazine article or essay concerning that institution, plus available information on its location and other descriptive information. A typical notation at the end of an article or essay might be "Read more information, articles and essays concerning this institutional source by visiting the sub-index page for the (named institution) in Resource Library (or Resource Library Magazine in instances of publication by Traditional Fine Arts Organization's predecessor)" or similar wording.
