A while ago I made a set of claws for my possum paws, but ended up not installing them at the time, because I wasn't sure my plan was going to work out. The fingers are made of fleece, with three darts on each tip - one in the middle, one on each side. They have removable foam inserts, pictured below along with the first set of claws I made.**( Read more...Collapse )My original intention was to just attach the claws with E-6000, but I got worried that it wouldn't adhere them well enough. I also wasn't sure how to handle the fact that the E-6000 might seep through the fleece and make it adhere to the foam inserts, or whatever else I put inside the finger to push against the claw while the glue dried. Maybe a different adhesive would be preferable?It seems like my other option is to make a new set of claws with bases, along the same lines as what DVC does. However, the middle dart is pretty much right where I'd be pushing the claws through. I can't really make a new hole there, but I could maybe undo the seam of the middle dart, and put them through there. But entirely removing the dart would create too large of a hole, so I suppose I'd have to find a way to sew it up around the claw. I feel like it'd be too difficult to do it from the inside with the base in the way, but maybe from the outside with a puppet stitch? Another concern I have with this method is the outline of the base of the claw being too visible underneath the fleece once I put in the foam inserts.I'm open to pretty much any solutions here, including making the claws from entirely different material (they're Primo Sculpey at present). I just feel like any claws will be better than no claws at all!Tags:claws, fleece, paws So I finally have my head made, and she's ready for painting. However, I want to do some shading on it as well, since most of her features are blended with the pure white. What color should I use to shade her, being that she's albino?I plan to have some light pink detailing around the eyes, mouth, and nose. My main question is for around the eyebrows, cheeks, and ear-bases. Is there a trick to getting the seams to stay flatter so they aren't as pronounced?Tags:fleece Hello,I'm making a head right now and chose to use fleece. I've have scoured the memories in regards to fleeced heads, however I cannot find anything about how you go about cleanly and accurately cutting the mouth. I've done the stretching bit and pinned it in place, I just don't know how to make the mouth work. No matter what I do, I end up with loads of wrinkles. Anyone have any advice?Tags:fleece I finished one of the Gashy's paw and I found a bit bad surprise after I finished it. Getting INTO the paw is quite annoying, like the fingers part. They are so tightly pushed together with the polyfilled padding and I literally felt I did something wrong and this should be much more comfy to put on hand. Any tips what should be done to avoid the fingers getting so pushed together with the filling? My fingers get lost in the paw, especially last 2 fingers. I try a new hand with a different technique. I bough such gloves called Tamrex winter gloves:They have latex fingers on the top and these are very comfy to put on hand and as the fingers are a bit tight, I hope this wont push the damn fingers into labyrinth. Its odd to find so little info about paws padding in fursuit stuff. There's barely any info, most are with fingers but for the whole arm and even sleeve. I'm Rix or Rixon. My animal is a mix between a hyena and an African wild dog. This is my first time building a fursuit and Rix will be a partial suit..I was really really hoping I could get some help, I've found myself in a bit of a rut with continuing the head (sorry for all the questions you're about to be bombarded with)Firstly, I think Rix is starting to look more canine than anything else. I tried to make the ears as "hyena-like" as possible, but it seems like he's looking more canine, and that's kind of upsetting..(also, he's missing a nose, I ordered one from etsy) and YES he does have a moving jaw..I'm a risky first timer..hehEYEBROWS..I don't know what to do. Rix is supposed to be a very devious, grumpy character (I think I attached a picture of a drawing) I feel like the mouth is something I already messed up (I couldn't get the smirking expression down) and now he looks like he's smiling!!! (Ugh) I know the eyebrows will help a lot but I'm not very happy with how my progress is going..Fur. I am scared to fur Rix because I feel like it will be a disaster. I don't know how to sew! Just need to sew the ankle to the rest of the foot.I'm wondering about lining though. Does anyone here line their paws? Or do you just hem the ankles?The fur colour is black and I have some black fleece I could use to hem the ankles, but I'm not sure if I have enough to line the entire ankle.Do I need to fully line them? I'm working on an all-fleece pokemon suit soon (well, all fleece except for the mane, which I'm using faux rabbit fur for) and I was wondering if anybody had any tips are far as how to make it all look clean?This is the pokemon:I'm not too terribly worried about the seams showing on most of it, but I would like the seams on the head to at least look a little bit cleaner than the rest. I've heard of the stretch-and-glue technique, but I'm worried that I'd fudge it up in some way or my glue would make the creases look and feel all crusty and gross.All-in all, I guess I'm asking about stitching techniques and overall crafting help to make the suit look nicer and neater than it would if I was going in blind. D: The head is made out of typical upholstery foam. I thought about using hot glue, as it seems to be everyone's go-to, but I'm not too handy with it. Plus, I live in florida, where it gets relatively.. warm. If I had to leave the suit in a car for some reason, I'd be utterly scared that the glue would remelt :c Anyways, suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated. c:Tags:fleeceMood:energetic Hello lovelies!It's taking forever, but I'm finally getting close to finishing my Typhlosion mask! I'm currently "skinning" him in anti-pill fleece, but I've come across an unexpected problem. (Please bear in mind that nothing is glued down, so there is a little extra bagginess.)( Images behind the cut Collapse )**I figured out that you can drastically reduce the appearance of seams by picking the fibers out of them, similar to what you'd do with fake fur. In the bottom photo, the center seam has this done to it while the left-most one has not. Unfortunately, I cannot hide the bulk. I've trimmed the seam allowance as much as I dare (about 1/8 of an inch in some places x.x) but there are still lumps. I was hoping the foam would get squished down under these, but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?
