Because of the various textbooks provided, textbook analysis is seen as an important thing to be conducted in order to find out how the components of the textbook are served. This study was aimed to investigate to what extent the English textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris: When English Rings a Bell” for eighth grade students meet the criteria of BSNP (linguistic features and presentation of materias). The linguistic features consist of language appropriateness while the presentation of materials consist of content appropriates, presentation appropriateness, and graphic appropriateness. This study was descriptive qualitative approach. The instrument used to collect the data is document study used in the form of checklist. A checklist was made adopted from BSNP (2011) framework. The aim of this study is to analyze how the plot of the story represents an identity crisis issue... more The aim of this study is to analyze how the plot of the story represents an identity crisis issue and the character’s action in dealing with his problems to manage his identity crisis. The reality and fantasy of the main character portrays the character’s identity crisis influencing his personality. The study employed qualitative method with the descriptive analysis. In identifying the data, Erikson’s theory about identity crisis and the interpretation of dreams by Sigmund Freud are used to find out the main character’s Id and how he manages his Id. The results of this study show the main character’s Id in The Jungle Book can be seen through the reflection of his anxiety through Freud theory. His anxiety and identity crisis have a significant role in Mowgli’s thoughts and behaviors: he cannot define himself in one’s identity. It comes to the conclusion that he is not a man, but neither a wolf.

The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the form of significant lexical collocation in stu... more The purpose of this study was to determine (1) the form of significant lexical collocation in student's English writing discussion text, (2) the process of lexical collocation creates cohesion in student's English writing discussion text, and (3) the cultural reflection displayed by the structure of lexical collocation and textual cohesion in student's English writing discussion text. This study applies a mixture of descriptive and quantitative qualitative methods in describing research findings. The data source of this research is the results of writing discussion texts in 3 PKBM Karawang. Data that has been documented in total is 30 discussion texts with 5274 words and 1664 types of words. The author uses the help of a computer application called Antconc to obtain the collocation data. The findings show that (1) the lexical collocations produced by students in Paket C in the discussion text are L1 (15%), L2 (34%), L3 (18%), L4 (4%), L5 (18%), and L7 (11%); (2) reference data are personal (51%), demonstrative (30%), and comparative (10%); conjunction data are additive (44%), adversative (15%), temporal (5%), and causal (36%). (3) The cultural representation found was the issue raised as the title of the text sourced from daily activities and used the words claim and assumed to describe students' ideas and opinions in the text. This shows that collocation is able to get a special place in learning English to improve the writing ability of students in Paket C in PKBM.

The method employed a descriptive-analysis. Movie script and scenes were the data with tables for characters and moral values to be analyzed as the instruments. The data were analyzed by using Schmidt"s theory for characters and Gulla"s theory for moral values. The research results find out the five types of characters. The protagonist has the most fractions with 26%. Sidekick has the second-highest level at 20%. Another sidekick represents the same 20 % of the total. The antagonist's share of showing in this story is 16 %. The following percentage is 10 % for the mentor and the smallest group in terms of character is a love interest at 8%. The research also results in 11 moral values in this movie.They are kindness 18,7%, commitment 17,6%, love 14,7%, honesty 12,7%, respect for others 9,8%, integrity 4,9%, sacrifice 4,9%, compassionate 4,9%, truthfulness 4,9%, tolerance 3,9% and sincerity 3%. Ted Wiggins as the protagonist and the moral value of kindness have the most portion in this movie.

Thus, the conducted research was analyzed using qualitative method with the approach of psychoanalytical literary criticism: Psychoanalysis by Freud as well as the theory of Psychosocial Development by Erikson to seek the identity crisis of the character Alice. The research methodology used is an experiment. The sampling technique uses random sampling at Private Vocational High Schools in East Jakarta. Data collection is obtained by testing their vocabulary mastery and writing skills. Data analysis to test hypothesis is two ways ANOVA. The research results conclude 1) There is a significant effect of the clustering technique on students' writing skills with the value (Sig) being 0.000 < 0.05 and F0 = 36.740. 2) A significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills with the value (Sig) is 0.000 < 0.05 and F0 = 72.161. 3) There is a significant interactive effect of clustering technique and vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills. With the value (sig) is 0.018 < 0.05 and F0 = 5.921. Then all of H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. So, there is the effect of clustering technique and vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in recount text.

The population in this research was the students of grade X at those two schools, meanwhile, the number of the population consists of 1400 students. Thus, the sample of the research was 10% from the population from which 140 students was taken. The method used in this recount texts. The result of this research is: first, Students’ mastery in using past verbs in writing recount texts is quite good; even though, there were some mistakes such as generalization; for instance, adding -ed ending for irregular verbs and using past verbs after prepositions; second, students’ mastery in using conjunctions was good and students could apply them in their writing correctly.Keywords: simple past tense; conjunction; recount text; foreign language writing

The method used is descriptive-qualitative to describe white supremacy and structural racism in the film. Data is obtained, analyzed and explained based on dialogues contained in the film, namely: 1) white supremacy that is analyzed from a) the appearances of the character using a sequence table, and b) visible glorification and invisible glorification using glorification dialogue table, and 2) structural racism, using binary opposition, namely positive and negative characterization of the characters. By the sequence table, the character that is predominant in the film is Andy Dufresne. From the glorification dialogue table, visible glorification gets the highest presentation while invisible glorification gets the lowest presentation. Using tasks as main activities, task-based materials was developed particularly for writing class. This article is intended to present the study of effectiveness of task-based materials in improving writing class for university. To accommodate the research purposes, mixed method approach was carried out by using quasi experimental research and content analysis of sentence complexity. The respondents were 210 students from writing classes as experiment and control with writing test as instrument. The results of data analysis showed that there were significant differences of writing skill to those who taught using developed task-based materials. Particularly in teaching writing as foreign language, syllabus became one of the key factors for teachers before and while delivering thelesson. The research was carried out by initial steps of research and development approach (R and D). The respondents were the students from writing classes, writing lecturers, and the stakeholders in one university in Jakarta. In collecting data, the instruments were the questionnaire and in-depth interview. After analyzing the data from need analysis descriptively, the researchers have modeled a developed layout of the syllabus for writing class. The syllabus is developed in a set of concepts and rationale, general and specific objectives or outcomes of the course as competences, teaching methods, materials and content, practices and activity, and evaluation.

As part of a research and development project, proposed task-based materials were developed based on needs assessment and a set of competencies underpinned by university vision and the graduate profile. The tasks were divided into task types, including pedagogical tasks, language exercises, and communicative activities, particularly for writing skills.

The research methodology used is an experiment. The sampling technique uses random sampling at Private Vocational High Schools in East Jakarta. Data collection is obtained by testing their vocabulary mastery and writing skills. Data analysis to test hypothesis is two ways ANOVA. The research results conclude 1) There is a significant effect of the clustering technique on students' writing skills with the value (Sig) being 0.000 < 0.05 and F0 = 36.740. 2) A significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills with the value (Sig) is 0.000 < 0.05 and F0 = 72.161. 3) There is a significant interactive effect of clustering technique and vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills. With the value (sig) is 0.018 < 0.05 and F0 = 5.921. Then all of H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted. So, there is the effect of clustering technique and vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in recount text.

The population in this research was the students of grade X at those two schools, meanwhile, the number of the population consists of 1400 students. Thus, the sample of the research was 10% from the population from which 140 students was taken. The method used in this recount texts. The method used is descriptive-qualitative to describe white supremacy and structural racism in the film. Data is obtained, analyzed and explained based on dialogues contained in the film, namely: 1) white supremacy that is analyzed from a) the appearances of the character using a sequence table, and b) visible glorification and invisible glorification using glorification dialogue table, and 2) structural racism, using binary opposition, namely positive and negative characterization of the characters. By the sequence table, the character that is predominant in the film is Andy Dufresne. As part of a research and development project, proposed task-based materials were developed based on needs assessment and a set of competencies underpinned by university vision and the graduate profile. The tasks were divided into task types, including pedagogical tasks, language exercises, and communicative activities, particularly for writing skills.
