Macrophages are the cells that most appear when inflammation occurs. Treatment for maintaining pulp tissue vitality is called pulp capping. Calcium hydroxide as a pulp capping material has the ability to trigger the growth of dentin bridges or remineralization, but calcium hydroxide can induce migration and proliferation of inflammatory cells. Currently the field of dentistry is developing propolis as an alternative pulp capping material. That is because propolis has anti-inflammatory properties. Purpose: To analyze the effect of the combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis on the number of macrophage cells in the teeth of Wistar rats with pulp perforation. Methods: This study used 30 samples of Wistar rats which were preparate until perforation and then divided into 3 groups. The first group continued with filling wit...

On the process of dentinogenesis is active but will decrease in secondary dentinogenesis. Invasion of the bacteria causing the onset of the immune response by forming odontoblast dentin reparative, indicated by an increased expression of DMP-1, but the mechanism of the formation of dentin is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to show the odontoblast cell like exposure to Lactobacillus acidophilus expression against NFκβ and DMP 1. Pulp tissue is taken from the third molar of teeth that have been extracted then exposed to Lactobacillus acidophilus and expression of NFκβ and DMP 1 measured using imunocytochemistry techniques. Results show an increased NFκβ expression and decrease DMP 1 expression in the odontoblast like cell in exposure Lactobacillus acidophilus. In conclusion, Lactobacillus acidophilus increases the expression of NFκβ and inhibits the expr...

Background: Caries in the dental pulp result in inflammation and damage to the pulp tissue. Durin... more Background: Caries in the dental pulp result in inflammation and damage to the pulp tissue. During inflammation of the pulp, various inflammatory mediators and growth factors are released, including IL-8, IL-10, TLR-2, VEGF and TGF-β through the NF-kB pathway. In the present study, therapy for pulpal caries was performed through pulp capping by giving a combination of propolis and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2). This treatment was expected to stimulate the formation of reparative dentin as an anti-inflammatory material to prevent pulp tissue damage. Methods: 28 Wistar rats were divided into four groups and treated with Ca(OH)2 with or without the addition of propolis for either 7 or 14 days. Immunohistochemical examination was used to determine the expression of IL-8, IL-10, TLR-2, VEGF, TGF-β in the four treatment groups. Results: The group treated with a combination of propolis and Ca(OH)2 for 7 days showed that the expression of IL-10, IL-8, TLR-2, VEGF, TGF-β increased significantl...

Pulp capping by calcium hydroxide could causing tissue necrosis followed by inflammation. Calcium hydroxide combined with propolis which have anti-inflammatory effects through inhibition of the Nf-kB pathway and pro-inflammatory cytokines. That process will inhibit the increase of vascular permeability and neutrophil chemotaxis. Inflammatory process can accelerate by controlling the amount of neutrophil cells as a acute phase marker, so the healing process occurs more quickly. Therefore it is necessary to study the amount of neutrophil cells in the pulp perforation of Wistar rats after applicated by combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis. Purpose: To analyze the difference amount of neutrophil cells on the Wistar rats pulp perforation after applicated by calcium hydroxide-propolis combination compared with calcium hydroxide-aquadest Method: M1 tooth perforated for all groups ...

A patient with orthostatic hypotension can be a challenging case for a dentist. A 78-year-old male came with idiopatic orthostatic hypotension and felt uncomfortable with his old crown restoration and discoloration on his upper teeth. Management of orthostatic hypotension can be handled by manipulating the dental chair interval movement position.

Present studies have shown that propolis has a reduction effect towards the proinflammatory cytokines expression and favor pulp healing.Purpose: To reveal the moleculer mechanism of propolis stimulation onodontoblast like cells, induced by inactive Lactobacillus acidophilus. Methods: This review was presented in odontoblasts like cells culture i...

Objective: To analyze the effect of the combination of calcium hydroxide-propolis on the number of macrophage cells in the teeth of wistar rats with pulp perforation. Method: This study used 30 samples of Wistar rats which were preparated until perforation and then divided into 3 groups. The first group continued with filling w...
