Along with technological advances, centralisation and digital archiving have provided the prerequisites for the creation of a national archaeological repertoire that contains, as far as possible, all the information available for each individual site, and being associated with resources that can be found in other databases, making it a dynamic tool that is continuously updated. Other databases are featured as they make up the digital record of the archaeological heritage in Romania and provide content to the national archaeological repertory. Future plans regarding the improvement of all these databases are presented.

Although fragmentary, the lamps are among the few such finds on the site and thus far the only ones preserving decorations. Two of the pieces depict two different types of gladiators, while the third bears the head of Athena Promachos. Neither the types of lamps, nor the decorations are unique or uncommon in the Roman world, but they are for the site and its surroundings, raising a series of questions about the trade and use of lighting devices at Labraunda and its neighboring cities.

The inscriptions that do tell us about the gladiator fights do not specify any amount of money invested, but describe the event, noting that the performances were magnificent. This leads us to think that they required significant budgets. Such an event consists of a series of organizational aspects, each demanding substantial expenses and raising the cost of philotimia to considerable sums, being comparable to a fortune.3 In order to arrange a spectacle of gladiators, the organizer had to pass through certain stages. The first concern of an organizer was the acquisition of the μονομάχοι. In the second half of the 2 nd century AD, the lowest contract of a gladiator for participation in fights was between 1,000 and 3,000 sesterces. At the same time, a 1 st Class gladiator who participated in a show, whose budget ranged between 30,000 and 60,000 sesterces, could not be contracted with more than 5,000 sesterces. However, the price could increase to 15,000 sesterces if the show had a budget of 200,000 sesterces or more.4 There are instances in which the organizer of philotimia, in this case the great priests of the Imperial cult, pontarchs (magistrate and leader of the Pontic community, the Federation of Greek cities on the west coast of the Black Sea) and philotimoi, hired a φαμιλία μονομάχων from a lanista. The high priest of the Imperial cult, Marcus Antonius Rufus, pontarch in Neocaesarea5 in Bithynia et Pontus did the same thing. During the exercise of the priesthood, some had a φαμιλία, which they later sold to their successors in office.6 The cost of owning and maintaining a φαμιλία μονομάχων, including accommodation, food, auxiliary staff and many other needs of the gladiators, must have been quite large. On the other hand, renting one would have required much lower costs. Not all priests, especially those of small communities, could afford to rent a φαμιλία of gladiators and they certainly could not keep one during their term in the priesthood.7 In this case, the organizer uses the services of independent gladiators who went to fight wherever needed, such as the gladiator Flammeatis,8 a retiarius born in Pergamon who died in Philippopolis and Phylokynegos,9 or another retiarius, a native of Macedonia who died in Claudiopolis. No philotimia could consist only of gladiator fights. An equally important element in the economy of such an event was the hunting of wild animals, venationes, as well as the fights staged between animals and the display of exotic beasts. If the procurement of gladiators was affordable, especially if the pecuniary aspect of the philotimoi was not a problem, purchasing animals was a major problem. It required considerable effort, not necessarily financially, but depended on the relations to buy or capture the animals.

Digitization of stone crosses and monuments of heroes from Prahova County” and “Heritage at the crossroads. Digitization of stone crosses, hero monuments and historical landscapes in the north and east of Prahova County”. The first project took place in 2017, the second took place in 2018, under the auspices of the European Year of Cultural Heritage and the Romanian Centenary of the Great Union. In the following, we will consider both aforementioned projects as two campaigns of a single development, given the common goal and objectives.
The two projects addressed the need to safeguard special categories of immovable cultural heritage, ignored and considerably degraded: firstly, stone memorial crosses, but also monuments honoring the memory of heroes fallen in World War I and the historical landscapes associated with this conflagration. The causes that have led to the degradation and sometimes destruction of these types of cultural heritage are many, but the most important are the gaps in legislation, the lack of knowledge regarding the meaning and the importance of local heritage protection, and loss of direct connections to the commemorated events and persons. On another hand, the degradation, the destruction, and in some cases even the disappearance of some monuments suggests a lack of interest in monuments and places of national and local memory, as well as of some monuments that by their form and/or significance denote a religious character.

The archaeological layers have been greatly disturbed, yet three stratigraphic contexts were identified. The recovered ceramic materials are very fragmented, but can be dated to the 2rd and 3rd centuries AD. From a statistical and typological point of view, out of a total of 543 fragments, 55.43% (the highest percentage of finds) is transport amphorae, 24.30% is plain tableware, 3.49% is kitchenware and 2.94% is fine ceramics. About 13.81% of the fragments could not be identified. The materials cover almost all functional categories and include local, as well as Pontic and imported pottery, especially from the Black Sea and Asia Minor.

The issue was recently introduced into the scholarly debate on the region following the published research of Elisabeth Bouley (2001) in France and Lyudmil Vagalinski (2009) in Bulgaria, and the thesis defended by the author in 2015 in the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest. This paper aims to integrate these new research themes, gladiatorial shows and other performances associated with philotimia in the context of research on the Black Sea, by means of approaching, in this case, the buildings that have and could have played host to such events (definitely or more uncertainly). The archaeological evidence of monuments, distribution and typology of specific constructions, their diversity and the transformations undergone, the seating etc. are all elements that will
be presented and debated in order to enhance our knowledge and to understand better both the diffusion of these events in the Roman provinces of the Black Sea and the impact they had after being adopted and practised by local communities.

to properly integrate them to the established typologies, discuss their provenance and elaborate on the iconography. The lamps originate at Tomis, Romula and Constantinople, three different regions of the empire and depict several types of gladiators: secutor, murmillo, thraex and retiarius. The fourth item discussed in the paper is novel and unique to the collection: the marble head of a secutor gladiator, depicted in an oriental manner and with analogies in the eastern provinces.

The objects were discovered in sites placed around the Razim Lake, belonging to different historical periods. They are divided in two categories and fall under various types, starting with weapons and finishing with common household items. This diversity gives us the opportunity to observe the origin of stones and the techniques of their production. An important point is to understand for which purpose various stone objects were used in different periods of time, in a limited and well defined geographical area, so that we obtain new information about various aspects of the military and economic spheres.

The issue was recently introduced into the scholarly debate on the Black Sea region following the published research of Elisabeth Bouley (2001) in France and Lyudmil Vagalinski (2009) in Bulgaria, and the thesis defended by the author in 2015 in the Faculty of History, University of Bucharest. This paper aims to integrate these new research themes, gladiatorial shows and other
performances associated with philotimia in the context of research on the Black Sea, by means of approaching, in this case, the buildings that have and could have played host to such events (definitely or more uncertainly). The archaeological evidence of monuments, distribution and typology of specific constructions, their diversity and the transformations undergone, the seating, etc. are all elements that will be presented and debated in order to enhance our knowledge and to
understand better both the diffusion of these events in the Roman provinces of the Black Sea and the impact they had after being adopted and practised by local communities.

The pattern of habitation for the area lasts, with small periods of interruption, almost two millennia. The archaeological discoveries fully illustrate this interval, starting about the 13th century and divided into the following periods: Bronze Age (13th century B.C); Early Iron Age (10th – 8th centuries B.C.); Archaic and Classical (7th – 4th centuries B.C.); Hellenistic (3rd – 2nd centuries B.C.); Early Roman (2nd – 4th centuries A.D.) and Late Roman (4th – 7th centuries A.D.).
