_06:21 pm_[Link] | Okay, so this post needs context. I've been reading haikujaguar's awesome web serial, Black Blossom.* And the last couple of chapters had some friendly bantering between the characters, mostly about how one of them wears black all the time. And this amused me, because all I could hear was my mother's reason for not letting me wear black, ever-"But you look so pretty in colors!"Then I had a dream that the author and I were trying to get the main characters to go to the beach with us. So I made fan-art, in stick figures. It is worth noting at this point that everything I know about surfing, I learned from Gidget. ( Stick figures!Collapse )*Okay, yes, I started reading her stuff just because they looked like catboys. But that was a shallow reason, and I'm mostly over that now. I'm in it for the alien culture now, and she also wrote a series about xenopsychiatrists, and how often am I going to find that? _03:50 pm_[Link] | Ick. Accidentally bought tuna in oil instead of water. Not acceptable. Also, I had a dream last night that I was playing a game on facebook, got to like level 28, and decided I was bored and needed to quit. I may need help. (Also in the dream was Mom revealing that there's a pukka in the rental house, and me and Tabatha Coffey criticizing a hotel, but the facebook thing, that had to be a sign, right?)(Yah, I'm copying from my facebook status. I wanted to make an lj post, darn it.)New material: OMG I have so many papers to grade. And my head hurts. The semester is over and I have so much to do by Wednesday and all I want to do is take a nap, but I slept in today so I really don't need it. Tags: dreams, everyday life, whining(Leave a comment) |

_04:57 pm_[Link] | I am gratified to know I didn't imagine the Sesame Street movie with Big Bird defying Osiris. There's one more thing to put on the list of "why I never had a chance at being normal". Also on this list is anxiously awaiting being old enough to play D&D with the cool kids.In other news, I am delighted to discover that Blue Coast is an acceptable substitute for Qdoba. Not as good, but workable. Current Mood: weirdTags: childhood fears, everyday life, food, oh look i have tags, weirdness(Leave a comment) |

_09:52 pm_[Link] | So, Mom asks me if I want to watch Hugo when I come home. Of course I do. Apparently Dad bought the dvd-which is bizarre because I don't think he's ever watched a dvd ever. And then Mom tells me they went ahead and watched it without me. Very disappointing, but at least now I know he can work the dvd player. (Leave a comment) |

_03:37 pm_[Link] | When I was but I wee lass, I had this Atari game that I loved. It was by Fisher Price, of all people-I think it was called "Dance fantasy" because that's what google comes up with. It wasn't really a 'game'-you had about 10 dance moves, and you could program a girl and boy dancer to go through the moves. I still remember the song. I think I've just discovered the 25-years-later, Japan-does-it-better version of the program. Sadly, that means it's a bazillion times more complex and I don't have the free time I had when I was pre-schooler, but if I can figure out how to use it/how to get it/if it really is what I think it is I might still play with it. I realize I'm probably the only person in the world geeking out to this program out of preschool nostalgia, but still. The yays. Edit: Holy cats. There's an emulator for Dance Fantasy? _11:48 am_[Link] | Writer's Block: B.Y.O.B. Holidays B.Y.O.B. Holidays Which December holidays do you celebrate, and why? One random answer will win a $50 Amazon gift card. [Details here] Reply 639 Christmas, and New Year's eve. My family's Christian, and Christmas is an American secular holiday anyway, so we do that. I realize that sounds cynical, but my church has given Christmas over to Easter sermons-you know, mentioning that baby Jesus will be tortured and killed soon, so we don't go to church anymore. It kind of ruins the "joyous miracle" feel of the season. That, and if they sang "Christmas Shoes" in service one more time Mom threatened to start screaming and run out of the sanctuary-I don't think she would, but... I have a similar threat regarding "Jesus take the wheel" which also got sung in service once. What ever happened to "I heard the bells" and "Joy to the World"?Plus Santa still comes, and I certainly am not going to give up that part of the celebration as long as Santa's still showing up. And New Year's eve, although we don't usually do anything for it-one year Mom and I stayed up watching Airplane, and then realized we'd missed midnight. I think that would do for a lovely tradition, but she disagrees. Tags: writer's block(Leave a comment) |

_10:48 am_[Link] | Writer's Block: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Chestnuts roasting on an open fire What is your favorite holiday carol or song? Reply 377 Well, my least favorite is Christmas Shoes, and I'm not keen on Baby it's cold outside, either. I like the traditional carols best, I guess? Like, I like some of the novelty songs, but I'll listen to "Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel" or "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" over and over again. And "Riu Riu Chiu" and "Betelehemu" are two of my favorite carols that I can't actually sing along with. Current Mood: cheerfulCurrent Music: Festive!Tags: writer's block(Leave a comment) |

_10:26 am_[Link] | Writer's Block: Friends forever lopoeticalveil Friends forever Did you have imaginary friends growing up? Reply 149 I did. I had Jenny and Tommy, who moved away to Pensacola, Florida at some point. Never even got a postcard from them after that. Which I find terribly ungrateful, considering I once beat a girl up for sitting on Jenny in preschool. (Well, they were invisible friends. I assume the prompt has a typo.) _08:35 pm_[Link] | Since all the cool kids are doing it...In honor of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.). The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!Happy Halloween!(This may have to go into a Day of the Dead/All Soul's Day sort of festival, but that's still fun, right?) I'd like to say I don't care, since I'll be dead and all, but I guess I want to be buried in a plain box. I suppose whatever my survivors want to do, though, although I think an urn on the mantlepiece is creepy. Might be cool though. Tags: writer's block(Leave a comment) |

_06:50 pm_[Link] | So, I'm totally a sucker for little toys that come in... blind boxes, I think they're called. You know, the sort of thing they have at the checkout where you don't know what toy you're getting, so you have to collect them all-if you're a 10 year old kids. Yeah, those. (See also ReMent, but I digress). (I also still get happy meals and make myself eat the food before I can see what toy I got. God help me when I actually hit my second childhood, since apparently I haven't escaped my first one yet.)I was at Target* and discovered Filly Princess toys. These are pretty much a My Little Pony rip-off. So, of course, I bought one and got it home-and was rewarded with the realization that some of these ponies are boys. And by boys I mean bishonen. Sparkliest boy ponies ever. This is suppposed to be "Emperor Kardus". (Yes, he's just a sticker, but he amuses me more than the toy). I want this to be an anime so badly. And here's Sir Kuno, I think. It's hard to identify the lower-ranking ponies. :) *This was a retail therapy session. I needed it like whoa. I'm lucky all I got this trip was a pony. ;) Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: abney park-airship piratesTags: omgponies, picspam, retail therapy, toys(2 comments | Leave a comment) |

_09:59 am_[Link] | Writer's Block: Desert island Desert island List three books that have changed your life: Reply 497 1. Bridge to Terabithia - Not in a good way. This was when I learned that books can betray you. You know when you're a kid, and you're reading a scary part, but you know everyone's going to be okay because that's how these things work? This was the book that ruined it for me. Based on the back cover, I thought the girl was going to move away. I didn't know people in books could die, or at least main characters. I guess I knew grandmothers and dogs died in books, but you knew that was coming. (The Babysitter's club book where Claudia's grandmother dies? I knew that was coming. If Claudia had died I'd probably still be in therapy.)2. A Ring of Endless Light - which is about a teenage girl who moves from a big city to a small town to take care of her dying grandfather. Which I read when we moved f to help my grandfather take care of my dying grandmother, and then my grandfather died the day Dad and I got there. It helped a little.3. I have trouble with a third. There's books I've loved, and books I've hated, and the SAS programming manual technically changed my life, but... Tags: writer's block(Leave a comment) |

Hahahhahaha.Zen. Right. I've procrastinated myself into crisis mode and my creepy neighbor just came over to knock on my door. I'm so zen I'm going to be up until dawn. Zen? I've never been zen. Reply 670 You know that thing Sims hum when they're bored/happy/waiting for you to build them a house? That. On the other hand, I walked to the laundry in the rain today, humming Raindrops Keep Falling on my head. Didn't remember the words to Singing in the Rain until I got back.
