Setting a Research Agenda for the Application of Industry 4.0 in the Supply Chain
2022
Industry 4.0 has revolutionised supply chain management by facilitating the digitisation of processes and smart decision-making. The role of Industry 4.0 in supply chain management has attracted research attention in recent years. This study examines the conceptual and intellectual structure of Industry 4.0 research in the supply chain in the current literature using a bibliometric analysis performed by VOSviewer software. The items “Industry 4.0” and “supply chain” are connected by co-occurrence, citation or co-citation linkages, providing visualization of scientific maps. Based on the significant increase in the number of papers since 2018, the most relevant clusters and the most cited articles have been analysed. Among the most researched topics, we found the relationship of Industry 4.0 in the development of a more sustainable supply chain, highlighting its relationship with the circular economy. It has also delved into the implementation of the same through smart technologies s...
Bibliometric Analysis of Published Literature on Industry 4.0
2019 International Conference on Electronics, Information, and Communication (ICEIC), 2019
Research on Industry 4.0 was initiated in 2012. Since then, the term "Industry 4.0" has been widely used among researchers to further investigate the development of technologies in the related industry. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze the scientific literature published in the field of Industry 4.0. Scopus database was utilized to collect all literature in Industry 4.0. Publish or Perish software was used to incorporate the obtained data, while VOSviewer was used for data visualization. SPSS and Microsoft Excel were employed for data analysis. The growth of publications, research productivity and citation analysis were presented using standard bibliometric analysis. Based on the search results, a total of 1256 documents were retrieved. The growth rate of literature in Industry 4.0 increased drastically year by year since 2012. Most of the articles were published in journals and conferences, mainly in English. Most of the research in Industry 4.0 was in the engineering field. Keywords of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) were the most keywords used and represent the main areas of research covered in Industry 4.0. Most of the research related to Industry 4.0 was conducted in Germany and multi-authored with a mean collaboration index of 3.65 authors per article. This study presents the evolution of the scientific literature in Industry 4.0 and identifies areas of current research interests and potential directions for future research.
Sustainability, 2021
The fourth industrial revolution has significantly changed the traditional way of managing supply chains. The applications of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in different processes of supply chains have assisted companies to improve their performance. Procurement can be considered a critical process in supply chain management since it can provide novel opportunities for supply chains to improve their efficiency and effectiveness. However, I4.0 applications can be costly and may not be reasonably affordable. Therefore, the benefits of implementing these technologies should be clarified for procurement managers before investing in the digitalization of the procurement process. Despite the importance of this issue, few papers have attempted to address the effects of I4.0 technologies and smart systems in procurement. To fill this gap, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) on the applications of I4.0 technologies in p...
Industry 4.0 in Logistics and Supply Chain Management: A Systematic Literature Review
Engineering Management Journal, 2020
“Industry 4.0” is a concept that focuses on automation of system and process, digitalization, and data exchange in industries. Its goal is to achieve a smart factory to reduce lead time to respond to the customers’ demand or to unforeseen events and improve productivity in the system. Using this concept can lead to improvements in manufacturing, supply chain (SC), and logistics. The adoption of Industry 4.0 in supply chain management (SCM) is a new and critical subject with a need for more research. A few studies have started reviewing the existing works on Industry 4.0; however, they do not focus on its role in SCM. This paper presents a systematic review and synthesis of the current literature on Industry 4.0 in SCM that brings out some interesting findings, which will be helpful for the academic and industry, especially top managers. This work identifies three categories from the content of the papers as exploratory vs. confirmatory, qualitative vs. quantitative, management level vs. process/technology level. Additionally, based on the Topic Modeling (TM) technique, three different clusters of Supply Chain, Logistics and Manufacturing topics were extracted. Current shortcomings, challenges, and future research directions are discussed in the conclusion
A review of Industry 4.0 in supply chain management studies
Journal of Manufacturing Technology Management, 2019
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess how the emergent theme of Industry 4.0 is considered in the context of supply chain management (SCM) and to identify important areas for future research. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review of 334 studies is carried out. The papers have been analyzed by having a focus on the unit of analysis, research methods used, the key themes covered and how the debate has evolved over a period of time. Findings Findings of the study reveal that scholars have so far focused on principles and practices for digitized SCM, identified enablers and barriers, and considered the Industry 4.0 at various levels, particularly at the firm level. Majority of studies focus on manufacturing from the perspective of the focal firm. Research limitations/implications Limitation of this study is its unit of analysis where only peer-reviewed journal and conference articles published in the English language have been considered. Practical implicat...
IRJET- The STUDY OF Industry 4.0 AND ITS IMPACT ON SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
IRJET, 2020
This research is based on a study of industry 4.0 concept and its impact on the supply chain management. The study involve various stages. Work is start with historical background of industrial revolution. Start with 1 st industrial revolution to 4 th industrial revolution. Various technologies are used in industry 4.0. The technologies are internet of things (IoT), big data, smart factory, cyber physical system. From all this technologies we study the working model, architecture of the above technologies. The further study involved the supply chain management concept and its levers like procurement, manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, and fulfillment these are study in detail. After getting the data from each and every aspect further study is to find the impact of industry 4.0 on the supply chain management. And also benefits getting by the supply chain management due to industry 4.0. The study is concluded with understanding rapid development in manufacturing and other industry because of the industry 4.0 technology revolution.
IEEE, 2019
Increasing the flexibility and effeciency of enterprises from procurement to sales provides a great competitive advantage for meeting consumer demands. Providing competitive advantage is possible through the effective implementation of innovative technologies of fourth industrial revolution in the all stages of supply chain process. In this context, research has been carried out for industry 4.0 applications at every stage of the supply chain process and the role of digitalization in the supply chain has been mentioned. In addition, views and in-depth data from 32 companies based in Turkey were collected by questionnaire and subsequently analysed in a detailed format with data mining methods. In this context, using the augmented reality glasses in supply chain operations, the robots used in production can adapt more quickly to the works, especially in the logistics sector. Also, the use of drone has an important place in the external logistics processes. It was also observed that th...

IRJET, 2022
"Industry 4.0" mainly focuses on automation of system and method, digitalization, and knowledge exchange in industries. Its goal is to realize a sensible industrial plant to cut back interval to retort to the customers' demand or to unforeseen events and improve productivity within the system. Victimization this idea will result in enhancements in producing supply chain [SC], and provision. The adoption of Industry 4.0 in provides supply chain management [SCM] could be a new and important subject with a requirement for additional analysis. Many studies have started reviewing the present works on business 4.0. However, they are not focusing on its role in SCM. This paper presents a scientific review and synthesis of the present literature on Industry 4.0 in SCM that brings out some fascinating findings, which is able to be useful for the tutorial and business, particularly prime managers. This work identifies three classes from the content of the papers as alpha vs. validating, quality vs. quantity, management level vs. process/technology level. In addition, supported the subject Modeling technique, three completely different clusters of provides Chain, provision and producing topics were extracted with current shortcomings, challenges, and future analysis directions square measure.
