Open Journal of Business and Management, 2015
We have tried to explore the major determinants of Pakistan's exports to APEC Markets using the Constant Market Share (CMS) analysis for the period 2003 to 2012. The CMS technique decomposes the impact emanating from the world trade effect, the commodity composition effect, the market distribution effect and the competitiveness effect. We also suggest that policies can increase exports thus increasing foreign exchange earnings for the economy.
In this paper, we have endeavored to analyze a sector-wise export performance of Pakistan using Revealed Comparative Advantage with the global market. Data for the period 2003-2015, Harmonized System (HS) 1988/92 developed by the World Customs Organization (WCO) are employed in the analysis. We have observed that Pakistan foreign trade concentrated limited products and markets for many years and there are no serious attempts to diversify its export share to the world. Empirical results show that Pakistan is not a major trading player in the international trade. However, it is a major trading player in some of its export items such as, textile and clothing sector, Vegetable, and hides and skins sector which have prominent revealed comparative advantage. Pakistan should diversify its exports and improve its trade diplomacy. Contribution/ Originality: The paper's primary contribution is finding of export performance of Pakistan using Revealed comparative advantage (Balassa index) for all external sectors. Empirical results revealed that some sectors in Pakistan have export potential with the world that can help Pakistan to reduce its chronic trade deficit.

Determinants of Exports in Pakistan: An Econometric Analysis (1970-2006)
2010
The present study has been conducted in the year 2008 to assess the determinants of exports in Pakistan during 1970-2006 using econometric techniques. Time series data ranging from 1970 to 2006 on total exports, primary commodities exports, semi-manufactures and exports of manufactured goods has been taken from Economic Survey of Pakistan (Statistical Supplement, 2006-07). Augmented Dickey Fuller (ADF) test has been used for checking the stationarity of the data. Furthermore, the Johenson Co-integration test (likelihood ratio statistic) has been used to detect the long-term relationship among the series. The method of ordinary least square has been used to assess the determinants of exports in Pakistan. The results indicate that 1% increase in the exports of primary commodities brings 0.97% increase in total exports in Pakistan. Similarly, 1% increase in the exports of semi-manufactures leads to increase total exports by 0.99%. On similar pattern, 1% increase in the exports of manuf...

The aim of the current research is to measure the export competitiveness in the mineral sector of Pakistan in the world market. This study collected the data from International Trade Center (ITC) and employed Constant Market Share Analysis (CMSA) to quantify the competitiveness of mineral exports during 2010-2021. The CMSA depicts the growth of any country's exports in terms of their competitiveness, market, and product structure. In addition, the change in total exports decomposes at both first and second level decomposition. This study finds out that average structural effect (SE), total effect (TE), competitive effect (CE), commodity effect (COME), and specific competitive effect (SCE)are positive from 2010-2021, while average residual effect (RE), market effect (ME), interaction effect (IE), general competitive effect (GCE) are negative. The current imperative is to explore and harvest natural assets utilizing cutting-edge technology and skill. Pakistan should concentrate on...
