Cultural artifacts and artefactual are a representation of a number of values (intrinsic and extrinsic) from the society in which they are produced. The traditional house of the Minangkabau tribe, Rumah Gadang, has a basic function as a place to live but on the other hand it is also a symbol of the existence of a tribe in Minangkabau. Therefore, Rumah Gadang has a very complex relationship between its function and social meaning. The architectural style and the allocation of space are not only for pursuing beauty but also represents the psychological and socio-political life of the people. This study aims to explore the relationship between Rumah Gadang and the human interaction in it by using a qualitative descriptive method through a visual perception approach. Rumah Gadang as an important visual symbol for the Minangkabau community, which also implies the cultural values of its people through the purpose of making and allotment of each room in it.

This documentary film entitled Perkampungan Adat Nagari Sijunjung (Traditional Village of Nagari Sijunjung) is trying to show the reality about the condition of the gadang house nowadays. This film was created with an expository documentary style, which uses the narrator as a single speaker. This documentary film describes one area that still maintains 'gadang' houses like their original functions, namely daily and customary functions. The daily function of the 'gadang' house is as a place to accommodate the daily activities of its inhabitants, as is usually the case with residential houses. While the traditional function of the 'gadang' house is the main house owned by a family belonging to a certain tribe. As the main house, the 'gadang' house is a place for traditional ceremonies and other important events from a large family of homeowners or fellow brothers of the same tribe.

This study aims to inventory of the textual naming process ornaments of rumah gadang. This study used the interactive analysis model of Miles, Hurberman, and Saldana. Data obtained from in-depth interviews, role observation and documentation. The condensed data were analyzed using the Sudrajat concept and seen from its cultural meaning using the Abdullah concept. The mathematical concept on cultural objects is one of the objects of study in the study of ethnomathematics. This study aims to uncover mathematical concepts in the ornaments found in the rumah gadang and the development of ornaments. This qualitative research uses participatory observation techniques and documentation to obtain data. The results showed that there were geometrical concepts in the ornaments and the development of the rumah gadang ornaments. The concepts of geometry seen in ornaments include the use of two-dimensional such as square, rectangular, rhombic, circle, ellipse and polygons. Two-dimensional shape are also arranged using certain patterns. The development of ornament forms is carried out using the principles of congruence, tessellation, symmetry patterns and geometric transformations (translation, reflection, rotation, and dilation). Artikel ini merupakan sebuah intisari dari penelitian yang dimana perubahan fungsi rumah gadang telah berubah. Dan perbuahan itu terjadi diakibatkan faktor merantau dan faktor destinasi wisata. Masyarakat Minangkabau yang mendiami Kota Padang turun temurun memiliki rumah gadang tanpa gonjong pada atapnya, berukuran lebih kecil dari rumah gadang bagonjong di daerah darek (darat) Minangkabau, serta atapnya menyerupai atap (kajang) pedati. Bentuk atapnya yang mirip dengan atap pedati menyebabkan rumah gadang ini lazim disebut dengan rumah Kajang Padati.
