DC Drive Testing for Prototype Electric Vehicles
2017
The shortcoming of fuel in the future has forced by the government and car manufacture to find new power source to propel the vehicle. Electric vehicle is one of solution of this problem. The aim of this research is to investigate main component of propulsion system of electric vehicle namely battery, DC-DC converter, motor drive and motor. Since building actual vehicle is expensive, the component ratings were reduced to save money. From the experiments, it was found that each component need is critical and need detailed analysis to produce a reliable and energy-efficient electric vehicle.
Scientific Laboratory Platform for Testing the Electric Vehicle Equipped with DC Drive
Latvian Journal of Physics and Technical Sciences, 2014
The authors present a test platform for the low-power DC electric motor of a traction vehicle or a high-power motor scaled in the traction and braking modes. The load emulator of the traction drive is made using an induction motor controlled by a frequency converter. A microcontroller controls the bi-directional DC/DC converter and sends a speed reference signal to the frequency converter. The test bench is meant for determination of the power consumption by motor in various speed cycles, and will be used to demonstrate the operation of electric vehicle to students and to investigate the charging/discharging strategies of energy sources.
Experimental Test Campaign on a Battery Electric Vehicle: On-Road Test Results (Part 2)
SAE International Journal of Alternative Powertrains, 2015
The experimental measurement of the energy consumption and efficiency of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are key topics to determine their usability and performance in realworld conditions. This paper aims to present the results of a test campaign carried out on a BEV, representative of the most common technology available today on the market. The vehicle is a 5-seat car, equipped with an 80 kW synchronous electric motor powered by a 24 kWh Li-Ion battery. The description and discussion of the experimental results is split into 2 parts: Part 1 focuses on laboratory tests, whereas Part 2 focuses on the on-road tests.
Development of an electric drive system for conventional automobiles
Numerous studies have been conducted on electric motor driven vehicles powered by different energy sources. Solar energy, fuel cells and super capacitors are a few alternative energy sources that can be used to power the motors of an electric vehicle. Several obstacles still remain in the way of popularizing electric vehicles, namely their range, and the time needed to recharge. In this research it is attempted to bring the electric car to a wider audience, by physically converting used automobiles to electric power and researching its potential as a fully electric automobile. A compact car was converted into a battery powered electrically driven automobile with minimum modifications to the original car. The engine of the car was removed but the original gear box was kept unchanged for more versatility.
Simulation of Electric Vehicle and Comparison of Electric Power Demand with Different Drive Cycle
Electric vehicles are gaining popularity and power and different analysis are performed on a simulated electric vehicle .This paper presents a method to model and simulate an electric vehicle according of newton's law of motion. Dimension analysis will be used to find power and energy required to propel the forward at specified drive profile. I INTRODUCTION This paper contributes to develop a method to model and simulate electric vehicle very simply by using modified equations derived from newton's law of motion. Electric vehicles are getting very popular due to several reasons like environmental impacts of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) based vehicle, rapidly increasing fuel cost and depleting fossil fuel reserves. Also lot of research are going in this field to develop better subsystems of electric vehicle example hybrid energy storage system, power train components, mechanical power transmission mechanism system etc. For the development of any such system need to accura...
Design and Assessment of Electric Vehicle Performance Parameters based on Drive Cycle
ITM Web of Conferences, 2021
Electric vehicle plays a significant role, in the future transportation across the world. EV has the potential to reduce air pollution and emission of Greenhouse gasses significantly compared to the existing fossil-fuel-based vehicles. Even though substantial progress can be expected in the area of embarked energy storage technologies, charging infrastructure, customer acceptance of Electric Vehicles is still limited due to the problems of Driving range anxiety and long battery charging time. We can solve most of these problems with the infrastructure development ,optimum sizing and design of the vehicle components and extensive study on vehicle dynamics under various real-time driving conditions. This research focuses on the Matlab software based co-simulation of Electric Vehicle system, including the battery pack and motor, to predict the vehicle performance parameters like driving range, efficiency, power requirement, and energy characteristics under different driving scenarios. ...
Model of Vehicle Electric Drive System
Journal of KONES, 2017
Models of electrical energy storage devices – a battery and a supercapacitor – as well as models of motor and a control system, were used to feature the work of a hybrid electric drive system. The models were adapted to simulate driving with a given driving cycle, in a quasi-static method, with the use of MATLAB-Simulink software. The advantage of this method is that calculations can be done quickly and results can be easily compared. A battery model enables determining voltage and charge level in relation to load current and temperature. The basic parameter of a battery is a nominal capacity. It is a measure of energy stored in the battery, which can be absorbed within discharge time, in conditions of temperature and current. The energy can be absorbed until the minimal voltage is reached in the clips. The article presents simulation of calculations lead that the described electric drive model. The model makes it possible to analyse different concepts of steering the whole system a...
Characterization of advanced drive system for hybrid electric vehicles
The electric drive is a key component in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). The ideal tendency is to use the electric machine over the entire torque/speed range. This paper presents the characterization of the electrical drive suitable for a recently proposed PHEV powertrain, and the design optimization of the electric machine. The newly proposed PHEV powertrain has only one electric machine functioning as either a motor or generator at a time, an energy storage unit consisting of battery and super-capacitor banks for fast charging/discharging during regenerative braking and fast acceleration/deceleration, and a transmission line consisting of two power split devices and a gearbox. The electric machine must be designed for frequent start/stop, fast acceleration/deceleration, high torque and power densities, and high efficiency at all speeds. The drive system was modeled and characterized by using MATLAB/SIMULINK and PSAT, while the machine design was conducted through electromagnetic field analysis by using ANSYS. The design optimization was carried out for four different electric machines, including a double salient permanent magnet (DSPM) machine, a hybrid excitation DSPM (HEDSPM) machine, and two fluxswitching permanent magnet (FSPM) machines of two different pole arrangements. The results show that the 6/7 pole FSPM machine has the best performance.
