With the large increase in population, automated industries and need of vehicles, parking of the vehicles is becoming a critical issue in various cities. Unmanaged parking of vehicles leads to noise pollution, air pollution, traffic congestion. During peak hours, it is difficult task to find vacant parking lot and it becomes the major challenge for driver to park the vehicle. A lot of work is being done in the whole world to manage the efficient parking of vehicles. To give the clear overview about efficient parking system, we go through some existing studies over the period of 2009-2022 which proposed various parking solutions. This survey gives an exhaustive study of available parking solutions and also proposed some recommendations for future research in providing smart parking management system.

The Development of Smart Parking System

The increasing of the number of vehicle ownership, parking has become the serious problem for several people. One of the problems is difficulty to looking for the empty parking space in the large parking area and also the amount of illegal parking car that does not follow the rules of the parking space dimension. In this paper, we proposed the smart parking system using the Internet of Things (IoT) that can be part of a solution for the parking problem. This system help in organizing the parking lot and helps the driver to reach their parking spots easily as they known which space is vacant. The parking space can be detected using an Infrared sensor that connects to the ESP8266 module that was programmed through Arduino IDE. Users can access parking space information using a smartphone via an application. Especially for users who have been registered before, they have a code for login the app as the requirement for security system and user parking convenience. The system can work with the purpose of the research appropriately.

This paper aims to provide comprehensive study, comparison and extensive analysis of SPSs in terms of technological approach, sensors utilized, networking technologies, user interface, computational approaches, and service provided. Moreover, the paper fills up the research gap by providing a clear insight into the suitability of SPSs in various environmental conditions and highlights their advantages/disadvantages. The extensive comparison among multiple aspects of SPSs would enable researchers, designers, and policymakers to identify the best suited SPS and understand the current trends in this sector.

The industrialization of the world, increase in population, slow paced city development and mismanagement of the available parking space has resulted in parking related problems. There is a dire need for a secure, intelligent, efficient and reliable system which can be used for searching the unoccupied parking facility, guidance towards the parking facility, negotiation of the parking fee, along with the proper management of the parking facility. Intelligent Parking Service is a part of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This paper reviews different Intelligent Parking Services used for parking guidance, parking facility management and gives an insight into the economic analysis of such projects. The discussed systems will be able to reduce the problems which are arising due to unavailability of a reliable, efficient and modern parking system, while the economic analysis technique will help in analyzing the projects' feasibility.

An Effective Approach for Smart Parking Management

Drivers and motorists get annoyed when it takes a long time to find a vacant space in a parking lot. Looking for parking has become a headache as the number of vehicles in urban cities and the cost of land concurrently increase. There is an urgent need for innovation in smart parking systems. Currently, investors and contractors pay laborers to operate and maintain smart parking systems. Staff duties may include opening and closing gates, giving directions to drivers and motorists, and managing payments associated with the lot. This article proposes a feasible, dependable, and smart algorithm for managing a parking system. This algorithm utilizes image processing techniques to provide real-time data. No labor is required to operate and handle the system. The system itself automatically handles all operations except maintenance. Furthermore, this algorithm is more cost-effective than other similar systems and equally effective. Numerous simulation scenarios were carried out on MATLAB to verify its developed approach. A comparison evaluation juxtaposes the proposed approach with other solutions in the literature. This evaluation clearly indicates that the presented method outperforms other solutions in terms of technologies being used, devices being utilized, and cost.

The Smart Parking System was developed as a result of an observed problem of parking area identification problem. Today cities have an ongoing problem of failure to allocate parking for new and native drivers. Some cities have a number of free and paid parking areas and all these usually go unregistered and so leaving cities unplanned. Developing the Smart Parking system is a way towards solving the problem, it is with great enthusiasm developers decide to bring impact to society. When developing our project, developers used several methods to develop their project, Developers used the qualitative approach to collect data from users using observation and interviews, and the quantitative approach to sort out the findings from the data collected that are going to be used in the development of the project. Developers used the agile development life cycle in the development and implementation of the project. In maintenance, developers used mainly the perfective maintenance to ensure a long time life survival of the application, also the developers used the formative and summative evaluations to evaluate their steps and outcomes of their application and the system has the help part that is going to help the new users on how to use the application. In the future our project will be improved to have map navigations, in payments, and search according to a category, we also have shown how the objectives where met the specific objectives how we developed the system and how we identified and reviewed the existing system. Lastly, we recommend people to use mostly mobile applications or systems because they can be accessed anywhere at any time

Parking space is becoming a serious problem due to the day-by-day increase in number of vehicles on the road. To deal with such problems parking planning should be done. We are implementing an algorithm which will solve this issue. The algorithm will guide drivers to find and direct them to their respective parking space at the entry level. For this, we used sensors which are deployed at parking lots to check the availability of the respective parking space. Using wireless sensor network (WSN) parking lot is detected. Also data is transmitted to the database along with necessary details about vehicle. This system provide user with near instantaneous update of available parking spot. Therefore, time needed to search parking space that are caused by inefficient parking system will be significantly reduced. We hereby present the study of issues related to the different structures used and algorithms for smart parking system. With the successful implementation of smart parking, the economy and time costs related with traffic jams, cost of wasted gas fuel, and time wasted looking for an empty parking space that are caused by inefficient parking will reduce significantly.
