In late June 2017, Amos Yong’s Renewing Christian Theology: Systematics for a Global Christianity (Baylor University Press, 2014) was the subject of a specially organized Theology Forum at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Four of the discussants wrote up their reflections, and the author then penned a rejoinder. The following reviews, followed by a response from the author, track some of the questions and conversations being catalyzed by the ongoing development of Pentecostal theology, particularly as it has been received by theologians on the European continent. They suggest that much work remains for those seeking to work out of an explicitly Pentecostal confessional context, but also indicate how ecumenical interaction can be mutually beneficial for all sides of the wider theological endeavor.

Kenneth Hagin (1917-) represents and is widely accepted as the father of the Word of Faith Ministries1 though his mantle has largely
fallen to Kenneth and Gloria Copeland who, through the magazine “Believer’s Voice of Victory,” promulgate a similar message concerning
healing.2 Because of the impact of his teaching concerning healing,3
with its attendant reactions,4 it is appropriate to analyze his beliefs and practices. Despite his attempts to prove that Christians may emulate the
healing ministry of Jesus, he assumes major differences that undermine
such a link. These will now be explored.

Research findings have been equivocal as to the existence of gender difference in leadership across settings. However, some studies based on transformational leadership theory and employing the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire to measure leadership behaviors have indicated a difference in the leadership styles of female and male leaders. This study sought to test whether there were gender differences in the use of transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire leadership behaviors by Senior Pastors in an Australian Christian Church. The study did not detect any significant gender differences in leadership behaviors.

From Jesus to the Internet examines Christianity as a mediated phenomenon, paying particular attention to how various forms of media have influenced and developed the Christian tradition over the centuries. It is the first systematic survey of this topic and the author provides those studying or interested in the intersection of religion and media with a lively and engaging chronological narrative. With insights into some of Christianity s most hotly debated contemporary issues, this book provides a much-needed historical basis for this interdisciplinary field.

The second part of the study on Pentecostalism in Rajasthan discusses contemporary features of the movement including Pentecostal concentration in the state and its socio-cultural status. It also deals with the relationship between Pentecostals and non-Pentecostals including the Pentecostal impact on other Christian sectors as well as the ecumenical attempts in the state.

Utilizing the statistics available, this study presents an overview of the two-millennium developments of global Christianity, observing significant shifts, followed by a focused look at the status of global Christianity in our time (1900-2050). The latter includes an examination of Christianity in each continent. This global and historical overview serves as the foundation for the two subsequent studies.

Korean Protestantism can be characterized as the rapid church
growth and the emergence of the mega-churches, which attracts the focus of scholarly investigation. The number of Protestant churches increased from 3,279 in 1920 to 5,011 in 1960 and to 33,897 in 1996. The Protestant population in Korean society has grown significantly since the 1960s. As can be seen in Table 1, the number of Protestant population had an enormous increase from 623,072 in 1960 to 8,760,000 in 1995.2 In 1995, with Korean Protestants (19.7%) and Catholics (6.6%)
combined, Christians have leveled out at about 26% of the whole population.3 Christianity, in spite of its short history in Korea, has become the major religion, together with Buddhism, in Korean society
today.

Global Christianity is in crisis. Symptoms include decline of the Christian Church in the West, social and personal identity crisis, global environmental crisis, mere cultural Christianity, and a major discipleship gap. The underlying issue is the church’s loss of ancient wisdom about people, the land, and God.

This article examines the significance of mediation in the public programming and activism of The Voice of the Martyrs (VOM), an organization that offers international aid and advocacy to Christians identified as victims of persecution. Focusing on VOM's efforts to rally Westerners, especially evangelical Protestants, I argue that the antipersecution movement urges supporters to share the mantle of martyrdom by engaging in purposeful acts of religious mediation, including the consumption and circulation of martyrological media. I explore a related tendency among evangelicals to valorize non-Western Christians in precarious circumstances as exemplars of self-sacrificing piety, whose suffering represents and inspires conditions of sanctification. Drawing on media analysis and fieldwork, I explore how practices of mediation, as forms of " witness, " invite evangelicals to embody otherwise elusive virtues and modes of agency associated with Christian martyrs, while reflecting ambiguous modern conceptions of the nature of embodied suffering and the relationship between vulnerability and power.

The church in Africa needs to develop enough leaders to serve the needs produced by its rapid growth. One significant aspect of leadership development is theological education. Theological education in countries like Kenya has grown vastly in the last thirty years. Scott Cunningham outlines this growth, pointing out that there now many universities that provide graduate theological education at the Masters and Doctoral levels. Jurgens Hendricks argues that quality theological education serves as the antidote to the problems arising out of the lack of training on the continent. The question we ask in this paper is how church pastors, particularly church planters, perceive the importance of theological training in light of their responsibilities. This paper examines existing literature on the subject and includes findings from interviews with from church planters from Mavuno church. This paper finds that though theological education is viewed highly both by educators and pastors several factors stand in the way of its effectiveness. This paper agrees with Kagema Nkonge who recommends a thorough re-examination of the training system. Further more, the recommends creative exploration and deployment of new models of engagement between churches and theological institutions to secure the future of African Christianity.

While Christianity has existed in Iran/Persia since the fourth century, if not earlier, at the middle of the twentieth century almost all Iranian Christians belonged to an ethnic minority, especially the Assyrians and the Armenians. Ethnic Iranians were almost all Muslims, and then mostly Shi’a Muslims. Since the Revolution of 1979 hundreds of thousands of ethnic Iranians have left Islam for evangelical Christianity, both within and outside of Iran. This paper seeks to explore the multifaceted factors – political, economic and technological – that have helped to create an environment wherein increasing numbers of ethnic Iranians have apostatized from Islam and become evangelical Christians. A concluding section outlines Steven Lukes’ theory of power and analyzes the growth of Iranian Christianity in the light of his theory.

How is the spread of Christianity related to that of the scientific method? Does the Christian obligation, as John Wesley characterizes it, “to contemplate what [God] has wrought, and to understand as much of it as we are able” (*God’s Approbation of His Works*, 1782) threaten cultural or communal idiosyncrasies? That is, if the methodologies which have come to govern scientific inquiry are to be normative for gathering, analyzing, critiquing, and improving upon human knowledge worldwide, then does the present pattern of globalization somehow undermine the value of experience—a basic tenet of the Wesleyan Quadrilateral? Is there an alternative to either intellectual syncretism on the one hand or a uniform, monolithic, worldwide scientific methodology on the other? What of tendencies for scientific inquiry (and theology, for that matter) to be steered in service to socio-economic gains? Taking cues from anti-positivism, Wesley’s corpus, and other relevant sociological and philosophical sources, we will analyze and critique the popularization of the scientific method as it relates to cultural assimilation within the globalizing repository of ideas. We will also offer suggestions for ways in which Wesleyans in particular may uphold a common commitment (a) to rigorous inquiry across the spectrum of academic and spiritual disciplines and (b) the particularity of experience which serves to celebrate the diversity within nature.

Since the 1960s, there has been a substantial increase in the number of known conversions from Islam to Christianity. Most of these conversions have been to forms of evangelical or Pentecostal Christianity, but there have also been conversions to Catholic and Orthodox Christianity, and still other converts claim to remain in some way both Muslims and followers of Jesus. This article explains how we obtained estimates of the number of converts, the complexities involved in this task, and an annotated list of countries by continent with the estimated number of believers in Christ from a Muslim background. The article includes charts with maximal, minimal, and medium estimates of this population from 1960 to the present.

As part of his campaign against criminality, President Duterte has called for the reinstatement of the death penalty in the Philippines. Its most vocal supporters are evangelical and independent Christian leaders and lawmakers. Although a religious minority, these entities are politically influential. In this article we show that they support the death penalty because they are Christian and Filipino. They articulate their support in two respects: it is biblical and it must be administered on heinous crimes for the sake of innocent people. We unpack these statements in terms of a religious citizenship that disregards the reality of religious diversity in Philippine society.

The article begins with a brief review of the history of the diocese of Jerusalem. By interviewing eight members of the diocesan clergy in Jordan, the researcher desires to explore how the concepts in the title are related to each other within the Jordanian context. Is there a unique identity of Jordanian Anglicans? What is the desirability and/or feasibility of revising the prayer book? Given the declining demographics of Christians in the region, what avenues are open to these ministers to sustain their congregations? Specific care is paid to the topic of incorporating Muslim converts into existing congregations. Also included are some theological reflections on the meaning of liturgy within the Jordanian context and the diocesan policies for the formation of future priests, which has important implications for the future of the diocese.

In the last few decades a substantial number of Tunisians have converted to Christianity. This article seeks to better understand their context and Based on two weeks of fieldwork in Tunis in the summer of 2014, this article outlines the history of three of the principal churches in the city—one Catholic, one Anglican, and one Reformed—describes some facets of their worship and spiritual life, and then, based on interviews with church leaders and members, explores key challenges facing the churches. Utilizing the framework of Shoki Coe's contextual theology, the findings are then analyzed in order to better understand the priorities, aspirations and ministry strategies of the local churches.
