In many countries gender parity is achieved at the primary education level; however, gender disparity at the higher education level remains a challenge. The current net primary enrolment in Bhutan stands at 95 percent (96 percent Male and 94 percent Female) with gender parity index at 0.98, taking Bhutan close to realizing the Universal Primary Education. Late introduction of modern education and a rush to realize policy aspirations have resulted in accelerating school expansion and student enrolment, but quality of learning and lower girls’ participation in higher education are remaining concerns. As a result, quali ed women’s participation in decision-making positions still remains an uphill challenge. This paper uses secondary data from sources within Bhutan to study the underlying gender issues in school education and how they relate to enrolment in tertiary education in Bhutan, particularly the constituent colleges of the RUB. Speci cally, this paper aims to study i) the trend of female enrollment in the constituent colleges of the RUB, ii) if female enrollment in primary and secondary school in uence enrollment trend in the constituent colleges of the RUB,
iii) possible evidences of gender gap in tertiary education in Bhutan, and iv) policies, strategies and plans that can positively impact gender inequality in education in Bhutan.

What is the value of a portrait when we don’t know who is in it? Knowing the Unknown Sitter was an on-line anthology of texts relating to ten unidentified portraits, selected from a wealth of material found in national collections across the UK. Through the discussion of these portraits, unknownsitter.com raised questions about the nature of identity, representation, and the role of the observer in interpreting visual images. The result of an initial collaboration between myself and art historian Lara Perry (University of Brighton), the project brought together writers from a range of disciplines as well as portraits – some of which have never been published before – to explore the problem of the unknown sitter, and the value of their portraits, once identity has been lost.

The research is exploratory-descriptive, which addressed the social representations of the inhabitants of Cali in relation to the management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). It was concluded that; in relation to practices, respondents have adopted behaviors that do not favor the efficient management of waste, in terms of knowledge the data show conclusive data that warn about the low diffusion of the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan (PGIRS) and the regulations applicable current. Finally, the attitudes denote a positive disposition toward training and training in the subject under discussion.

Resumen La presente investigación es de carácter exploratorio-descriptivo, y abordó las representaciones sociales de los habitantes de Cali, en relación a la gestión de los residuos de aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos (RAEE). Se pudo concluir que, en relación a las prácticas, los encuestados han adoptado conductas que no favorecen la gestión eficiente de los residuos; en cuanto al conocimiento, los datos arrojan datos concluyentes que alertan sobre la baja difusión del Plan de Gestión Integral de Residuos Sólidos (PGIRS) y la normatividad vigente aplicable. Finalmente, las actitudes denotan una disposición positiva hacia la formación y capacitación en el tema en discusión.
