- ⛰️ The mountains are calling and we’re headed to Lake Tahoe for the 2024 Western Groundwater Congress from October 7 - 9. We’re proud to sponsor and exhibit at this year’s conference, and we’re looking forward to sharing and learning about the innovative technologies and practices working to build greater sustainability in California’s groundwater management. On Tuesday October 8, 10:30 - 12:30pm, our partners at the Environmental Defense Fund will present on the Groundwater Accounting Platform in Track 2 of the event, “Groundwater Management Innovations: Balancing Budgets, Markets, and Allocations.” Developed through collaboration between ESA, the Environmental Defense Fund, the California Water Data Consortium, and Olsson, the Groundwater Accounting Platform enables water managers, landowners, and water users across California to track water availability and use in near real-time. Come find us at our booth where Savannah Tjaden, Kathleen Elmquist, and our project partners will be sharing more about the platform and how we can help address water management challenges, and support SGMA compliance requirements! Check out the platform at: https://lnkd.in/e-ikaGHW, and find the agenda at: https://lnkd.in/gu8tzG5b GRA: Groundwater Resources Association of California #WGC2024 #GroundwaterManagement #SGMA #GroundwaterSustainability #WaterManagement

We’re looking forward to connecting with everyone at this year’s Bay-Delta Science Conference in Sacramento, California from September 30 - October 2, to share and discuss the latest research and restoration approaches in the California Delta’s dynamic and rapidly changing environment. We’re pleased to sponsor and present at this year’s conference, our team including Garrett Leidy, Damien Kunz, Maureen Downing-Kunz, Alejo Kraus-Polk, Ph.D., Chris Fitzer, Paul Bergman, Ramona Swenson PhD, CERP, Eric Ginney, Cameron Reyes, Taylor Spaulding, Kathleen Berridge, Travis Hinkelman, Christina "CJ" January, and Daniel Huang, are looking forward to seeing you there. Take a look at our scheduled presentations, below: 🏞️ “Hamilton Wetlands Restoration Project: Fish Community Responds to Changing Tidal Marsh Conditions” September 30 at 3:30 pm Presenters: Garrett Leidy and Damien Kunz🤝 “Using a Structured Decision Making (SDM) Process to Evaluate the Potential Benefits of Installing Salmonid Guidance Structures at Sutter and Steamboat Sloughs” October 1 at 1:30 pm Presenter: Alejo Kraus-Polk, Ph.D.🐟 “Intraspecific Movement of Striped Bass in a Large Regulating Forebay” October 1 at 3:30 pm Presenter: Taylor Spaulding🌲 “Planning and Implementing a Mosaic of Regenerative Land Uses in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Through Transdisciplinary Science and Co-Design Integration" October 2 at 8:50 am Presenter: Alejo Kraus-Polk, Ph.D.🔬 "Setting the State: Design of the Dutch Slough Project from Concept to Implementation." October 2 at 8:50am Presenter: Mark Lindley, PE 🚧 “Physical Consideration and Effects of a Head-of-Reservoir Juvenile Salmonid Collection System in Shasta Reservoir (Where Do you Put It and How Does It Perform?” October 2 at 2:00 pm Presenter: Maureen Downing-KunzFind more information about these presentations and the conference schedule at: https://lnkd.in/gHhWABzx #BDSC2024 #BayDeltaScienceConference #CaliforniaDelta #SalmonidRestoration #SacramentoSanJoaquinDelta #WetlandsRestoration - “This project isn't just about restoring habitats—it's about reconnecting people with those habitats, the shore, and ensuring access for all. Coastal habitats deserve to be restored and have an inherent and inalienable right to exist,” says coastal engineer/oceanographer and project manager Pablo Quiroga, P.E.The Lowman Beach Park Shoreline Restoration Project in Seattle, Washington, successfully restored both the ecological functions and habitat connections of the park’s upland and shoreline, while reestablishing public access. We are so grateful to ASBPA American Shore and Beach Preservation Association for recognizing this project with the 2024 Best Restored Shore Award!
We are jetting (in our minds) to the PNW to celebrate the Seattle, WA Lowman Beach Park Shoreline Restoration 2024 Best Restored Shores Award. The Lowman Beach Park Shoreline Restoration is a standout example of urban shoreline restoration and serves as a blueprint for similar projects in urban areas constrained by existing infrastructure and private properties. The project aimed to enhance both the park and the shoreline in a sustainable manner, achieving multiple objectives including improving park access, enhancing ecological process, expanding nearshore habitat, and enhancing adaptive capacity in the face of rising sea levels. Another key aspect that makes it unique is the daylighting and creating a natural bank for over 100 feet of creek that was previously buried culvert, and allowing for fresh water to flow across the shoreface. This not only restores the natural hydrological process but also offers the public a unique opportunity to experience the dynamic interactions between fluvial and coastal systems for the first time in nearly 90 years! Congratulations to the Environmental Science Associates Team! - ESA is shaped by the remarkable people who elevate our culture, inclusivity, and advance the whole of our employee-owned firm. That’s why we’re especially proud to share the news that Eryn Brennan, Jeff Caton, Adrienne Centano, and Sharon Niemczyk have been appointed as Vice Presidents, and Ann Borgonovo and Matt Deniston have been named Senior Vice Presidents.
