Episode 13 - "A Trip to Ealham" (May 18th 1998 1:45pm)
Brian (Bunter) Worthington, stood in the middle of Yaxley Farcett's new bedsit and beamed at him, arms out wide. More Stirling, than Kate, Moss. His new employer stared at this cross between jump suit era Elvis and John Travolta and said 'Brian. You look fantastically absolute. Let's do it !' They left Yaxley's room and passed Su Parson's on the stairs. 'Ooh. You two have palled up quickly. Where are you off to ?' Farcett arranged to speak with her later. Now he knew that she was Clunch Parson's sister, he was keen to find out more about him. As he had nothing to go on, it seemed logical to start with the people who were around at the scene of the crime. After all, how many times had he seen tearful press conferences where family members appealed for witnesses to a murder when it turned out a couple of months later that it had actually been them who had committed the crime ? The two men climbed into Yaxley's Ford Escort and he realised that Brian, with his fashion sense, actually looked the part in an orange car. He reached out into his glove compartment, found a tape of 70's disco chartbusters and they were off. Brian gave directions to the nearby city of Ealham and they set off to a soundtrack of Barry White and The Stylistics.
Yaxley parked the car and allowed himself to be taken on a guided tour of Ealham by Brian. Firstly they dropped off Jak Jackson's film at 'FotoFinish' the one hour developing place and then they had a leisurely stroll while Brian opened up some more on his private life. Unmarried, forty two years of age and a keen darts player-that was it really. Well, that was all he told Yaxley. Having already cried on his shoulder once today he thought he'd been 'Oprah" enough for one day. They wandered around the shops, the cafe's and the park until finally, after walking up a slight hill, they stood at the foot of the famous East Tower of Ealham Cathedral. 'I thought you'd been leaving this until last' said Yaxley. 'It's not as if you can't see it, is it ?' They walked inside and sat in a pew at the back. The choir was practising and the two men leaned back and listened in silence for quarter of an hour until the rehearsal broke up. 'I love it in here' said Brian. 'I come here a lot to just think. To get out of the way of everybody and everything. I don't believe in God. I think it's all a load of crap to be honest. But I love this place. D'you think that's odd" Yaxley smiled, 'I don't think that's odd at all Brian. I think you've got it about right'
