جامعة الولاية الحرة هي جامعة عامة متعددة، يقع الحرم الجامعي في بلومفونتين، عاصمة الولاية الحرة، العاصمة القضائية لجنوب أفريقيا. أُسست لأول مرة كمؤسسة للتعليم العالي في عام 1904، كجزء جامعي من كلية جراي. وأُعلنت كجامعة مستقلة للغة الأفريقانية في عام 1950، وغُيير الاسم إلى جامعة أورانج فري ستيت. الجامعة لديها حرمان جامعيان. وفي البداية كانت للبيض فقط، ثم أُلغيَ الفصل الكامل للجامعة في عام 1996، وعُيّن أول نائب أسود لرئيس الجامعة عام 2010. The University of the Free State is a multi-campus public university in Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State and the judicial capital of South Africa. It was first established as an institution of higher learning in 1904 as a tertiary section of Grey College. It was declared an independent Afrikaans-language university in 1950 and the name was changed to the University of the Orange Free State. The university has two satellite campuses. Initially a whites-only precinct, the university was fully de-segregated in 1996. The first black university vice-chancellor was appointed in 2010. (en)
De Universiteit van de Vrijstaat is een Zuid-Afrikaanse universiteit in Bloemfontein, de hoofdstad van de provincie Vrijstaat. De universiteit heeft daarnaast nog een campus in het voormalige thuisland Qwaqwa. De universiteit heeft begin 21e eeuw rond 25.000 studenten. De universiteit is een van de vijf oorspronkelijk Afrikaanstalige universiteiten. Tegenwoordig wordt onderwijs gegeven in het Afrikaans en het Engels, terwijl het gebruik van Zuid-Sotho door de universiteit wordt aangemoedigd. (nl)
