Copyright information
I, Guillaume Dargaud, am the author of all the photographs present on this web site (with a few noted exceptions). Some of the background drawings come from the Sharp End Graphics Page or the Microsoft Clip Art gallery. For the satellite NOAA pictures the Copyright is somewhat vague, it was supposed to be public access, but the rules changed in 2000. With a few noted exceptions, all the JPGs are mine and here's what you can do with them:
- First, be aware that some pictures have been placed in photographic agencies, if you want any of those pictures, for any purpose, don't ask me, ask them.
- Second, I do sell five CDs of high resolution royalty-free images that you may use any way you want. I will not sell individual pictures off the CDs.
- Now if you want an image not listed above, keep reading:
- You can use my pictures for personal purpose (as a background wallpaper for your desktop for instance).
- You can freely reproduce some for educational purpose (just don't forget to quote my name properly). 'some' meaning no more than 3 per site.
- You can also use some on your non commercial web sites (just write my name and put a link to my site). 'some' meaning no more than 3 per use (school's webpage, school presentation, school report, university thesis...).
- I barely tolerate remote display of some images inside weblogs (just write my name and put a link to my site): if you give me too many hits I will disable you like I've already done to 20 or so blogs.
- You must ask me (and wait for my answer !) before changing them in any way (that includes resizing, changing contrast/brightness, changing file format...).
- You may not include them on distributed CDs or software (even free CDs or freeware) without my consent.
- As for the text, it's not that it's all that interesting anyway, but please let me know if you'd like to use any of it (standard copyright rules apply here too).
- Although free, any of the uses listed above welcome a contribution...
- If you want to buy some prints (via snail-mail) or some higher resolution JPG (via e-mail), let me know. Prices are reasonable, I don't expect to make a living out of this... Look here for more info.
- You may not mirror my site as a whole or my individual pages without my consent.
- For any commercial use, please read this: I do license my images to corporate entities (logo, advertisement, magazines, postcards...). Here's the procedure:
- Make sure the image(s) you want have not been placed in an agency (in that case you need to contact them, not me).
- Browse the thumbnails of the CDs. If the image you want is on them,
order through kagi's secure systemcontact me. - ...Otherwise, select the images you want (right-click on the image and do [Properties] to get the filename) and Contact me with the name of the file, the type and duration of use and some company information; we'll decide on a price and I will send you a 2000x3000 2700dpi scan or a 3000x5000 4000dpi scan. Payment is through PayPal, or a check or bank draft (in US$ or Euro) directly to me.
Right: A penguin taking a pause for a photographer
On the lighter side, several people asked me recently to use my penguin pictures for misc Linux related activities (themes, ads...). That's fine, I'm getting to use Linux more and more myself when reliability is on the line (Gentoo and Knoppix) and it battles the forces of Evil (although I still use Win2000 for day to day activity). Just let me know about what you do with the pics.
