These translations are regarded as a valid instrument of analysis to determine the form of reception translators have of the original poetry and transmit to readers in the past century. Normative translator behaviours are thus defined, which allows a classification of translations according to the natural evolution of the sociocultural context where translations are produced and received. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to provide theoretical and methodological fundamentals appropriate to the original study of translation as a form of reception of foreign literature. This research joins the incipient but promising literature that stresses the great interest translation studies have in the reception issue nowadays, only studied by the reception theory within literary studies so far. The applied methodology is interdisciplinary. Conclusions of this thesis can be extrapolated to the study of the most common practices followed in the translation of poetry in the past century Spain. Theoretical and methodological fundamentals appropriate to the original study of translation as a form of reception of foreign literature have been settled. At the same time, subsequent research attached to different fields, i.e. applied linguistics, synchronic linguistics, and literary theory, analysis and criticism is very welcomed.

The translation of books in the philosophical and sociopolitical fields is professionally framed in Spain within editorial translation. Although this translation activity represents an important part of editorial production in the current Spanish market, until now little attention has been paid to its theoretical study, to its study in relation to the professional demands and competences that define the task of the translator, and to its study from a teaching methodological perspective. This is, therefore, a pioneering reference work for researchers, professional translators, teachers and students especially interested in translation for the publishing world in these fields.
It is also structured in an innovative way that is consistent with the need for knowledge transfer in a double flow between university and business.
The book begins with an identification of the origin of the translation of philosophical and sociopolitical texts and then traces the path that these translations follow until their publication in the publishing market, also addressing the analysis of the specific professional skills that allow the translator of these texts to carry out a wide range of tasks related not only to the cultural and ideological load that must be calibrated, but also to a large extent to the context in which their activity is inserted and to the participants in the translation process.

The experience “The school library: open space for training and generator of social value” developed in a school in the province of Malaga, CEIP San Agustín (El Burgo), and in three other schools in the capital of Malaga (CEIP Fuente Alegre, CEIP Nuevo Guadaljaire and Colegio Los Olivos) during the 2022-2023 academic year was a creative learning experience for teachers and students with very encouraging results.
Based on this experience and the results obtained in it, its evolution in the classrooms was designed and the collaborative project “Read, imagine and create: tell me about it yourself” was implemented during the 2023-2024 academic year.
The result of this experience was not assessed in statistical terms; Rather, it has been left to the discretion of the recipient of this book to provide this assessment, since the following pages show the stories that each of the school groups worked on collaboratively in class.

However, other agents also influence the editorial decision on the selection of publishable translations, such as the initiator of the translation or the pro-translator. The joint study of these agents in the translation of poetry in the Spanish publishing market today offers the possibility of investigating the influence of patronage on the development of foreign poetry translated into Spanish. To this end, the editorial policies developed in this regard by two of the most important poetry publishers in Spain are analyzed: Ediciones Hiperión and Visor Libros.

This book chapter presents an introductory review of these translation study perspectives to theoretically contextualize the applied presentation of a polyphony of women translators in Spain and Latin America who have lent their voices to the English romantic poet John Keats in Spanish. The profile of the translators is assessed in accordance with the intentionality, explicit or implicit, of their translation work, and the harmony of their contributions in the transmission of the Keatsian poetic truth is conjectured.

Subtitling for the deaf and the hard of hearing , audio description for people with visual impairments and sign language interpretation are the audiovisual translation modalities (inter and intralingual) that until now have regulatory regulations for both creation and broadcast in audiovisual media in Spain. Its existence aims to guarantee users the right to information, culture and leisure, so media accessibility plays a fundamental role in favor of the social inclusion of the groups to which it is aimed. At the same time, it generates the need for the training of qualified professionals to carry out a task that requires instrumental skills closely linked to new technologies. The audiovisual translation classroom becomes the most appropriate place to develop a collaborative teaching-learning process in media accessibility.

Its benefits compared to traditional materials are numerous: thanks to the digital multimedia material the individual needs of students are better attended; students themselves have easier access to authentic and up-to-date material, and teachers take more advantage of the time available for teaching. The educational innovation project “Elaboration of accessible audiovisual material for teaching and self-learning” (PIE-65 from the University of Malaga, 2015-2017) was born from the experience as university teachers and from our work in other projects of educational innovation related to the world of the visual and auditory disabilities, through which we realised the interest that audio described and subtitled material could have for this target group along with specific screen readers such as JAWS. Our final objective was the creation of short videos that were training pills with very defined learning objectives. These videos were subtitled with subtitles for the deaf and / or audio described. The purpose of this audiovisual material was to: create audiovisual teaching material accessible to people with auditory or visual disabilities and thus facilitate the autonomous learning of these students and promote it amongst others, especially those of international mobility, and foster coordination and collaborative work among teachers through the creation of audiovisual didactic activities.

Thus inherent in translation competence, documentary competence is an essential part of the curriculum of the Translation Studies undergraduate programmes offered at the Spanish University nowadays. In this paper we interpret the didactic approach to documentary competence in translator training methodology, regarded as both an independent course and a transversal content of other translation courses. We also present a practical implementation focused on the information–retrieval process prior to the translation process itself. Its implementation as well as its evaluation permit judging the importance of the development of documentary competence as part of the specific professional competences that must be acquired by the translator trainee in any pair of languages.

Based on this motivation, all the subjects included in the different curricula of the new Degrees, especially those closely related to translation (of general, specialized, literary, audiovisual texts...), integrate their objectives, related competences and learning outcomes around the final acquisition by the student of the translation competence. The students learn, therefore, to translate. But is every text translatable? If not everything can be translated, how is it taught not to translate? They are questions that the student, sooner or later, poses at some time; questions feared by the teacher and for which, sometimes, she does not have a priori answer. Only the reflection on the practice of translation and the anticipation of problems in the first stages of the translator's training can give a satisfactory answer to the unavoidable paradox of "untranslatability as a form of translation".

The study of literary translation, therefore, requires a historicist perspective that links literary translation as an activity with the world of which it is a part, on which it influences and by which it is allowed to influence. In this work we carry out a historicist study of the evolution of literary translation in the Spain of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. To this end, the literary history, the publishing history and the socio-professional situation of the literary translator become the three angles from which to evaluate, always with a marked historical background, the participation of literary translation in shaping Spanish culture. Literary translation is thus identified not only as a bridge of communication between different people, but also as an indispensable means of mediation for the configuration of the culture of a community.

This hypothesis is based on the following general statement: retranslation in anthologies usually determines the creation and development of the canon. The examination of this hypothesis implies its application to a specific case that guarantees the objectivity of criteria. In this way, we have chosen the retranslation of the poetic works of English romantic authors collected in anthologies published in Spain in the twentieth century. The starting point, therefore, is the initial conception that the retranslation of these works determines the formation of the canon and its subsequent development in the 20th century Spanish cultural receiving polysystem.

This interest finds its explanation if the translation is considered as an act of communication addressed to a specific recipient that, to a greater or lesser degree, determines both the translation process and the final product. The translator, therefore, performs the functions of linguistic and cultural mediator between the original text and the receiver. The phenomenon of reception in translation is very complex and can be approached from different methodological views. This study offers some theoretical and practical considerations about reception in the field of literary translations. To this end, we start with a synthesis of the theoretical assumptions that underlie the study of the aesthetics of reception in translation and, later, practical behavior patterns are extracted from a specific case of poetry translation.

This manifesto laid the foundations of the Ultraist poetic movement, which promoted a radical renewal of spirit and techniques. This paper provides a contextualization of Vltra and a descriptive extratextual study of the translations contained within, predominantly sourced from French originals. These analyses allow for an examination of the foreign influences on the movement and their treatment in translation, significantly impacting the Spanish literary scene of the time. The methodological approach addresses two main aspects: initially, it involves a contextual analysis of the periodical in relation to its aesthetic principles and contemporary periodicals, followed by an exploration of the factors and participants involved in the production of the original and translated texts.
This includes the people and institutions engaged in the translation process, the presentation of the texts and their peritexts, along with other translation texts or epitexts. It concludes that the translations and translatological texts present in Vltra not only introduce novel foreign literature into the Spanish literary system of that era but also serve as a means of expressing
the lyrical theories of the Ultraist movement.

It starts with an introductory contextualization of the unique features of the translation of video game titles in China through history, then examines the translation solutions adopted in the case of the most widely accepted versions of top-rated video games in the Chinese target market, revealing that literal, meaning- preserving approaches have become predominant over time, surpassing semantic- altering methods. Nevertheless, various types of modifications have been observed in the translation of video game titles due to linguistic and cultural differences. Even mistranslations are officially adopted as long as they have gained widespread recognition. In the future, video games imported into the Chinese market may receive a unified Chinese title for both distribution platforms and social media, prompting further research.

September 2019 at César Chávez Elementary School, a public, bilingual English/Spanish primary school in the city of San Francisco (California, USA).
The research was based on the hypothesis that children enrolled in such bilingual educational programs are exposed to linguistic and cultural content in English and Spanish and will therefore differentiate the contents of the bilingual audiovisual products they consume both linguistically and culturally.
The aim was to assess the possible impact of audiovisual translation as a didactic tool on the acquisition of linguistic and cultural competences by bilingual child language brokers. For this purpose, we developed a qualitative and quantitative research method built upon a set of interviews and experimental tests, respectively, which may be applicable to the study of
similar situations in other educational systems.
The results obtained after data collection and analysis will allow us to test the initial hypothesis and draw relevant conclusions on the role that audiovisual products, original and translated, can play in the development of linguistic and cultural competences of bilingual child language brokers.

One of them is the interpretation of a very careful selection of Keatsian poetry by Clemencia Miró in 1946, part of which was also published in Latin America. A study of her life and her work, in confluence with the translation thought that shines through in the main paratext that accompanies the translation, allows us to carry out the portrait of an intrusive translator in a predominantly masculine poetic world.

Public institutions and academic initiatives are also working to promote media accessibility. Regulative pillars for the implementation of accessibility practices in the audiovisual media are a reality in Spain. There comes the time to analyse if the practices correspond to their demands.
This paper presents the results derived from the study of audiovisual accessibility and translation practices implemented in the cinemas and theatres of Malaga (Spain), Mediterranean paradigm of multilingual cultural offer, during the first quarter of 2019. The audiovisual offer, the accessibility and translation practices used, the technical means applied for the display of the final products and the languages involved in the process are studied consequently. The final results may contribute to foster social inclusion and fill in a theoretical gap in academic research.

This work presents a study of the position of the Spanish language and culture in the Australian social panorama and reflects on the audiovisual media as the main means of conveying this foreign culture and language. From the identification of the elements that participate in the process of translation of the Spanish audiovisual products in Australia, significant conclusions are derived related to the effect that the translation of these audiovisual products can have on the creation of a Spanish cultural image in Australia.

Nevertheless, nowadays subtitled versions are becoming more visible today. One of the reasons that explain the increasing presence of subtitled films may be the growing concentration of English speaking people in some areas. But it is not the only factor that explains this often unnoticed transformation: the ease to access the subtitled version of TV series on the Internet and the habit of watching subtitled films in other contexts, such as film festivals or cinema forums, might help to understand why audiences seem attracted to the subtitled versions of films. In any case, there might be many surmises, but few data to confirm them. This article analyses the results of an empirical study thought to provide some information about the reception of subtitled films within the context of a cinema forum held on a weekly basis in a specific Spanish area. The overall purpose of the work is to shed some light on both the audience’s profile and opinion about subtitling as an alternative way of watching foreign films in a dubbing country. The study is carried out through a survey that allows us to interpret the resulting conclusions from a sociological perspective.

Its high degree of specialization makes the teaching and learning of the subject a challenge for both learners and teachers within the frame of the various curricula of university degrees in Spain.
This work deals with the curriculum design of a specialized module in socioeconomic translation within the Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Malaga. From the overall educational context provided in the Degree, the description of a practical training specially oriented towards the professional practice is addressed.
Given the time constraints imposed by the curriculum, it is advisable to implement in the teaching and learning of this subject a professional approach for one main reason: the motivation of students is enhanced by a field of specialization that in principle is regarded as hostile in contents. With a proper contextualization of the translator training activities and an adequate gradation of their difficulties, the student places the translating task within the translation market towards which (s)he is finally addressed at later stages of the training.
Teaching suggestions are provided in this work so that they can be modified for their use in similar contexts.

Linked to both Linguistics and Sociolinguistics, norms are understood as the formulation of the values shared by a community in a certain situation. Thus they are psychological and social entities that have a social control function. From this point of view, translation norms are recurrent rules of behaviour that govern, identify and individualize the social order of the cultural system where translation takes place. The translation behaviour is then considered a communicative and a social practice.
In this article, a brief review of the current state of the art of the theoretical reflection on translation norms is offered, followed by a practical study of the Spanish translations of John Keats’s odes and sonnets included in isolated editions published in Spain in the 20th century. Normative translator behaviours find a definition, which allows a classification of translations according to the natural evolution of the socio-cultural context where translations are produced and received. Conclusions can be extrapolated to the study of the most common practices followed nowadays in the translation of poetry in Spain.

The translation of books on philosophical and sociopolitical domains is professionally set within... more The translation of books on philosophical and sociopolitical domains is professionally set within the boundaries of translation for the publishing world. Although this translating activity plays an important role in the current Spanish publishing industry, it has been barely studied in relation to the professional demands and competences that define the translator’s task. Consequently, this article has two main goals: first, bringing the definition of sociopolitical and philosophical texts up to date from the study of their genre features, and, second, connecting this theoretical reflection to the work setting, in which the translator is asked to develop a whole range of professional competences easily adaptable to the changing publishing world. The diachrony in translation, the translation methods, the publishing formats and the orality in translation are dealt with as being the leading professional demands. Thus the translator needs to meet specific professional competences targeted towards the fulfillment of a wide range of tasks related not only to the cultural and ideological burden of the texts to be translated but also related to the translation context and the participants in the translation process.

Previous works are of valuable interest and have been used as the sound foundations of much of the audiovisual translator’s training literature and practice. Bearing in mind these previous studies, the didactics of audiovisual translation is approached in this article, in which television advertisements are the thematic core.
From a range of different sorts of television ads, interesting questions of study can be raised: the theoretical foundations of audiovisual translation; the ideology of audiovisual advertising; the cultural references inherent in audiovisual products; the modes of audiovisual translation and their connection to translation techniques and to the strategies to solve translation problems; or the concept of untranslatability.
The translation of audiovisual ads emerges then as an excellent starting point for the creation of a didactic methodology that deals with important questions of study in audiovisual translation: different linguistic and cultural problems arise for discussion and all of them can be extrapolated to the translation of other kinds of audiovisual texts.

The literary translator has to adapt himself/herself to the changes undergone by genres and it is by means of his/her ability for recreation that s/he will participate in this changing process. The result will be a translation placed within an ideal communication framework based on socially agreed rules and conventions, the translator playing a major role in their evolution. In this paper we present an update on the literary genres involved in the task of the literary translator in Spain in the 21st century. We also reflect on the impact of the current international crisis (financial, political, social and ethical values) on the publishing practices intrinsically linked to the literary translator.

Complementary to these two preliminary perspectives, this article presents a linguistic-pragmatic approach to SI. For this purpose, the main pragmatic parameters influencing oral communication and, consequently, SI quality ―nonverbal communication, the so-called “false starts”, politeness, conversational maxims, and speech acts― are analyzed in terms of their relation with both the cognitive and the linguistic approaches. The result is a linguistic-pragmatic approach to SI understood as a multidisciplinar activity that promotes a new research approach and helps to improve simultaneous interpreter training.

On the other hand, translation competence strengthens language competence since the translation process requires both the comprehension of the source text and the appropriate use of lexis, syntax and discursive structures within a given context.

In the light of the investigations that have been carried out in the field of literary translation in recent years, translation is redefined as a form of reception that is based on readings.
Understanding translation as a form of reception entails the application of a new research methodology. Descriptive studies of translation and the new cultural fields of social, historical and ideological interest that have been developed in recent times serve as the basis for a proposal of research methodology applicable globally or partially to the study of any translated literary text.

A practical case of description of translations can be found in the description of the version that about the original poem of the romantic Englishman John Keats, Ode on a Grecian Urn, has been carried out by Alejandro Valero, Oda on a Greek urn. Induction is considered as a method of work to start from the observation of the text and reach conclusions that reveal to some extent the general patterns of behavior by which the translator has guided. This provides the necessary keys to uncover the three objectives that are pursued, namely, the identification of the translation unit, the identification of the invariant or priority and the formal characterization of the version.

On the one hand, the prologue is chosen as a paratextual element that should be studied due to its role as a contextualizer of translations and the definitive research corpus is specified, in this case, the prologues that accompany the poetic work of the English romantic John Keats translated into Spanish. On the other hand, the same data are analyzed in each of the prologues: physical description, author, content, function, nature and usefulness. The results obtained from the observation of the prologues in the selected literary translations are reflected in tables that facilitate the subsequent stage of evaluative comments.

In recent times, interest in audiovisual translation as an object of translatological study has risen in the number of publications and various approaches. The distribution of audiovisual products through new communication channels and the ease of access to these products for consumption by a large public contribute to the rise in the professional demand for this type of translation in its various modalities. Translation Studies seeks to answer the questions that this professional practice raises so that the flow between academia and profession is fluid and serves the purpose of adequately training new professionals in this field.

Its use has been restricted by the English language teaching and learning prevailing methods of different periods. Nowadays controversies arisen in this field are updated because of the development of translation studies as an autonomous academic discipline. Although interesting, there is scarce theoretical research on the topic. The most important studies are English and they are an essential starting point of later research. In practice, didactic handbooks used for English language and English literature teaching and addressed to advanced students illustrate the use of translation in this field. A careful exam of some sample cases of these two kinds of theoretical and practical materials shows the state of the art in the field

The literary translator has to adapt himself/herself to the changes undergone by genres and it is by means of his/her ability far recreation that s/he will participate in this changing process. The result will be a translation placed within an ideal communication framework based on socially agreed rules and conventions, the translator playing a major role in their evolution. In this paper we present an update on the literary genres involved in the task of the literary translator in Spain in the 21st century. We also reflect on the irnpact of the current international crisis (financia!, political, social and ethical values) on the publishing praclices intrinsically linked to the literary translator.

The need of researchers provided with firm methodological training has been noticed in the Spanish University System, above all at Postgraduate level. This article starts from a preliminary reflection on translation and interpreting as objects of study and their place in the Spanish University System. It focuses then on the analysis of the planning and implementation of the subject Introduction to research in Translation Studies, included in the Master´s Degree in International Communication, Translation and Interpreting of the University Pablo de Olavide in Seville (Spain) since the academic year 2008-2009.

En este trabajo se aborda el estudio de las antologías de traducción del romanticismo poético inglés publicadas en España desde principios del siglo XX hasta la actualidad. La rama de investigación externa en la historia de la traducción proporciona la metodología necesaria para el análisis. Los aspectos externos definitorios de las antologías se analizan y se valoran tras unas consideraciones teóricas previas acerca del concepto de antología de traducción.

Although this translating activity plays an important role in the current Spanish publishing industry, it has been barely studied in relation to the professional demands and competences that define the translator's task.
