Introducing myself [23 Jan 2008|08:25pm]
[ **mood** | hopeful ] Hi just wanted to introduce myself. I am a 28 yo female from Australia. I am joining this community as a way to encourage myself to become fit again. I used to do karate for 5 yrs but for the last 10 months due to a new job have been unfortunately unable to get to classes which i'm disapointed about, i also live out of town so cannot just pop down to the gym.Sooo I am challenging myself this week to start eating healthier, lots of fruits, cutting out night time sweets, exercise for at least half an hour each day and drink lots of water.Peace be, Fawn :)

I have a little mini - challenge!!!For anyone out there.Duration: Now until Thursday, Nov 16, midnight. Your local time.Title: Crunches/Pushups/SitupsDescription: Do as many crunches, pushups, or situps as you can daily - without endangering yourself, of course. Crunches are worth 5 points, Situps 10, and pushups have 2 categories: Girl (@ the knee) 10, Guy (Feet!) 15.See how many points you can accumulate! All you have to do is write in dry-erase marker on a mirror "C,S,P" and have tally marks next to them to keep count. Perhaps check in daily, or spring them all on everyone else unawares! My personal goal is to hit 300.

current workout [14 Jun 2006|09:57pm]
Ok, let's get the mini-challenges going. But first, I would like to know what everyone who is interested is currently doing. It isn't much of a challenge if you are already doing more than the challenge. And it may also give us a good starting point. So, comment and tell everyone how many crunches you do now, etc.

mini-challenges [05 Jun 2006|09:09am]
I missed the beginning of the challenge that is running through the middle of June. And while it sounds good, I was wondering if anyone wanted to try some mini-challenges also? Maybe just a few days or a week? Maybe focused just on abs, or maybe abs and cardio? Also, I think the idea of a new challenge every week is going to be awesome.JonYahoo id: joecml01

This is just a note to let us have an open comment thread - anyone have tips on how they're managing to avoid their normal "bad habits", or tips or ways to get all your exercise in.Also, a reminder - post AWAY! This place could be hopping if we posted every day, and then we could all actively support each other rather than only hearing about how we've done over the past week.I'll post a "CHALLENGE THREAD" on every weekend - I'll try every friday, but who knows - and if this place gets active enough, wednesdays too just to keep a comment thread up on the flist.COMMENT AND POST AWAY!!!

REPOSTED / REISSUED. [31 May 2006|09:07pm]
CALLING A CHALLENGE: The challenge will be held 5/31 through 6/15. Since it's only "safe" and "good" and "healthy" to lose up to 2 pounds a week, the max (listed) goal will be to lose 4 pounds in those two weeks. If you lose more, go you. The plan:Eliminate 2 "unhealthy" habits - soda with dinner, sugary desserts, whatever - for the two week span. Also, commit to 45 minutes of ACTIVE working out - not stretching or cooldown, but active walking / biking / running / crunching / whatnot. I know we haven't had a challenge in a while, so it'll work this way:2 points a day for not being unhealthy (1 per bad habit you skip)3 points a day for working out (1 per 15 minute ACTIVE workout)5 points a day, 15 days. The person with 75 points (or the highest amount) gets to set the next 15-day challenge. Report your points at the end of the day, as well as what habits you're kicking and how it's going. Reports with actualy content beyond points will only be required 4/1 (your habits, what you're trying to change, why), 4/7 (halfway point, how it feels, how it's going, what do you notice about yourself and your workout patterns, do you need to step up the intensity at all), and 4/15 (final day, any poundage lost, any inches lost?, how do you feel, are you going to continue not-doing these habits, why or why not, blahblahblah). How'd'ya like?SIGN UP AND LET'S KICK BUTT! And get glam abs while we're at it!TO sign UP:Comment with your goal.I'll comment myself to add.ALREADY JOINED:make_a_case ~I give up- soda (eh its common thing to give up but I need to anyways)- Ice cream/ hard candy (its going to be killer its so hot)trekster ~I give up:- fast food (mainly taco bell, really)- sugary desserts / baked desserts (brownies, cookies, etc)

Is anyone interested in doing a challenge? I need to work my abs more, and a challenge might be just the motivation I need to keep at it.

hi, i just recently found this community, and was wondering if you guys could help me out..i run on the treadmill 3 days a week for 2.5 miles which usually takes me 30 minutes at a jog. now ive been reading some of the posts, and comments about how cardio is supposed to burn away the level of fat on your stomach. should i be increasing the amount of miles i do, or up the amount of days i run, to see more results?

well i found this lj completely by chance, as i have working out as one of my interests and it was actually a link which i followed....people are welcome to read my personal lj as i started training due to knee problems. i train now to keep my leg muscles strong to support my knees, and to keep my weight at a healthy level.i'm not manic with my training, some of my friends think i am but i think i do enough.the best results i have had so far though are post-op. i had a lateral release on my left knee in August 2005, and i was back in the gym 8 weeks post-op. around 2 months later, weight had dropped off me. i had been worried about weight-gain while i was recovering from the surgery, but my worries were unfounded. i wasn't even overweight pre-op, i lost even more weight and am smaller now, after the surgery!i train twice a week on v-max bikes and cross trainers, with a warm up and cool down on the rowing machine. the v-max machines have a maximum level setting of 16, which i use. i train on the bike for 25 mins (broken into 2x10 mins and a 5 min, with short rests in between) and a straight 15mins on the cross trainer.i burn a minimum of 1000 calories in 40mins of hard cardio. of course, after everything is done, i stretch.as i regularly do leg and arm weights at home every morning, and abs every evening, have done for years, the definition i am now starting to show on my abs is really encouraging. there's a definite six-pack there now, whereas before it was a tiny subtle hint!so the trick is, make sure you do the toning exercises, but ensure you are doing hard cardio sufficiently to burn off that outer layer of fat. you'll see results really fast, as i did :)akam mii-aow x

[Goal for 2006] [01 Jan 2006|09:32pm]
[ **mood** | energetic ] So it's the beginning of the year. I figured today would be a good day to start working out, and getting my tummy awesome. My goal is to lose all the belly fat I have by spring break. I'm going to run every morning (while i'm in Texas, and then while i'm in Chicago, between classes). I only want to eat fruit during the day, and one yummy meal in the afternoon. I plan on not eating fast food (that means giving up sonic which is my favorite), and eating as healthy as possible. I will only drink water, juice every now and then. And i will do my cardio work out that has worked for me once. My reward will be.....well I haven't thought of that yet. Right now i'm just going to focus on getting rid of this nasty body fat. YAY!!that is all.
