Until recently, traditional musical instruments have generally been investigated with an emphasis on analysing musical elements and forms, structural features of melody and rhythm. However, a more recent approach shows anthropologizing the musical process as a form of ‘humanization’. The study of music, so to say, is shifting from the attention to the sound product towards man. Therefore, this study focuses on a possible shift of circumstances under which instruments are constructed and preserved today. As local and global paradigms have come to modify traditional instrument functionalities, one may consider it crucial to determine the extent of modifications and its impact upon the (intangible) heritage of the musical instrument. The social and cultural significance of traditional practice of artisanship will also examined in order to trace the changing perspectives of the preservation of this intangible cultural heritage in Goduša until the present day.

Na sceni se njeguje širok vokalno-instrumentalni repertoar izvođen od strane mnogobrojnih ansambala pod kišobranom Sokolskih četa. Predstavnici ovih društava su odigrali značajnu ulogu u očuvanju identiteta, raznolike kulture i narodnosti ovog kraja.
Summary:
Social life during the period between two World Wars in Visoko was culturally rich and enlightened. The main music stream included wide varieties of vocal and instrumental music performed by different ensembles under the umbrella of so called ‘‘Soko.’’ Representatives of this assembly played a crucial role in preserving the cultural identity, nationality and the diversity of this area.

This thesis is based on a case study of visually impaired students examined during fieldwork undertaken while working as an intern at the Institute for the Blind in Worcester, South Africa.
The paper will argue that music is an apparatus for cognitive and cultural transmission amongst visually impaired students, especially when referenced through the contribution of group music performance. Also, it will assay whether music group performances indeed contribute to the social connectedness of visually impaired students, affecting their disability culture and identity.
The paper also deals with the cultural characteristics of the visually impaired people involved in the school facilities of the Institute by examining the links between music, language and other means of traditional expression used in social transmission.
The concluding remarks give a possible insight into the question: How does music shape disability?
