The possibility of developing a photochemical setup on the basis of an optically pumped ammonia laser with an intracavity photoreactor is proved. The obtained values of the cavity 'implication' factor γ are comparable with those of intracavity systems based on a CO2 laser. The conditions for achieving the maximum energy in the focusing cavity are determined and the ways to control the shape of its caustic are indicated.

The choice of an appropriate social rate of discount is critical in the decision-making process on public investments. In this paper we review the literature on social discounting, and address in particular a recently growing field of related research, that is, individual time preferences. We argue that an explicit consideration and analysis of the behaviour of individuals regarding the concept and the use of an appropriate social discount rate are essential for balanced decision making in the public sector, especially, though not exclusively, in the field of resource or environmental policy.

This research project explores the relationship between lexical and syntactic complexity measures in the learner's use of the language learned. Statistically significant positive correlations were predicted. The predictions were tested by analyzing an English learner corpus which comprises 152 essays written during in-class exams conducted at the International University of Sarajevo. The corpus was analyzed with the Lexical Complexity Analyzer (Ai & Lu, 2010; Lu, 2012) and the L2 Syntactic Complexity Analyzer (Lu, 2014; 2010). A correlation test between 25 measures of lexical complexity (LC) and 14 measures of syntactic complexity (SC) produced a large number of statistically significant positive and several statistically significant negative correlations. The overall findings show that lexical and syntactic complexity measures only partly account for each other and imply that automatic ratings of L2 proficiencies which utilize language complexity indices need to rely on both lexical and syntactic complexity measures.

Complex analysis and complex geometry can be viewed as two aspects of the same subject. The two are inseparable, as most work in the area involves interplay between analysis and geometry. The fundamental objects of the theory are complex manifolds and, more generally, complex spaces, holomorphic functions on them, and holomorphic maps between them. Holomorphic functions can be defined in

A seismic stratigraphy study was conducted to develop a stratigraphic framework for Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments in the Ganal area, Makassar Strait, Indonesia. The study area, physiographically located in the continental slope of the offshore Kutai basin, is very attractive for deep water sequence stratigraphy analysis. The sediment interval exhibits a series of geologic features of deep water sedimentation such as a submarine fan associated with canyons and channels-levees complex. Analysis of over 4000 km of multichannel seismic data serves to detail documentation of such features and the stratigraphic evolution of the area. On the basis of their termination patterns, two types of significant stratigraphic surfaces, unconformity and flooding surfaces, can be identified as seismic boundaries on the seismic sections. The unconformity surfaces can be recognized by erosional, truncation, and onlap termination patterns. The distribution of these surface can be correlated in the area from the slope to the basin floor, which is commonly associated with scour channels. The flooding surfaces can be recognized by downlap termination patterns of the younger layers into the older strata below. Both of these surfaces provide important information to reveal the depositional history of the deep water sedimentation in the study area. Regional seismic profiles indicate that the Pliocene-Pleistocene sediments were deposited in the slope to basin floor setting, from the west to the east respectively. The structural and stratigraphic analysis suggests that this basin configuration strongly influenced the distribution and thickness of the seismic sequences and stratigraphic development of the Pliocene-Pleistocene sedimentary succession. Isochron maxima correspond to the depocenters that are close to sedimentary pathways and are associated with submarine channels and canyons. The isochron patterns show that depocenters and sediment pathways during deposition of the Pliocene-Pleistocene interval coincide with regional basin setting. Six seismic sequences have been identified within the Pliocene-Pleistocene interval. Each sequence consists of lowstand deposits that can be recognized by its seismic facies units. The seismic characteristics vary from sequence to sequence as well as within lowstand system tracts. Lowstand features including submarine canyons, channels, and fan lobes have been identified and mapped. Identification of these features substantially reduces the reservoir risk associated with deep water depositional environments. The canyons, channels, and fan lobes in the study area were superimposed and presented in the composite map and served as a good model and unique example for deep water sedimentation. Finally, a depositional model of lowstand deposits for the study area has been established and may play an important role in future exploration and development in this region and elsewhere in the world.

Defeasible Logic Programming (DeLP) is a suitable tool for knowledge representation and reasoning. Its operational semantics is based on a dialectical analysis where arguments for and against a literal interact in order to determine whether this literal is believed by a reasoning agent. The semantics GS is a declarative trivalued game-based semantics for DeLP that is sound and complete for DeLP operational semantics. Complexity theory has become an important tool for comparing different formalism and for helping to ...

Data Structures (CS2) courses and course books do not usually put much emphasis in the process of how a data structure is engineered or invented. Instead, algorithms are readily given, and the main focus is in the mathematical complexity analysis of the algorithms. We present an alternative approach on presenting data structures using worked examples, i.e., by explicitly displaying the process that leads to the invention and creation of a data stucture and its algorithms. Our approach is heavily backed up by some of the best programming practices advocated by the Agile and Software Craftsmanship communities. It brings the often mathematically oriented CS2 course closer to modern software engineering and practical problem solving, without a need for compromise in proofs and analysis.

The pages that follow contain “unofficial” solutions to problems appearing on the comprehensive exams in analysis given by the Mathematics Department at the University of Hawaii over the period from 1991 to 2007. I have done my best to ensure that the solutions are clear and correct, and that the level of rigor is at least as high as that expected of students taking the ph.d. exams. In solving many of these problems, I benefited enormously from the wisdom and guidance of professors Tom Ramsey and Wayne Smith. Of course, some typos and mathematical errors surely remain, for which I am solely responsible. Nonetheless, I hope this document will be of some use to you as you prepare to take the comprehensive exams. Please email comments, suggestions, and corrections to williamdemeo@gmail.com.

By the passage of time , there are many searching algorithm and data structure evolved to make basic operations more efficient with respect to time and space complexity like storing, searching, deleting the data and they play very important role in real-world applications. Based on mechanism of searching, Searching algorithm can be classified into three types of algorithm: linear, binary, hashing, but excluding these, there are many searching techniques proposed by many researchers. The aim of all these proposed searching technique is to optimize the time complexity of searching operation generally compared to Binary Search, which have average and worst case time complexity of log(n), where n is number of elements. This paper proposes a noble searching algorithm that works for sorted array data structure and performs better in most of the cases than that of binary search. The proposed searching Technique will either find index of target element or find a small space within array space by using statistical operation, and then binary search will be applied to that small space, thus it will reduce the overall time complexity. This paper briefly discusses, proposed algorithm and it"s time complexity and comparing the efficiency of the algorithm with some of the well-known other algorithms, using graphs and tables and its practical applications. We will analyze the behavior of algorithm in different parameters like:-size of input data, Nature of elements in list, Different Case Scenario (worst, best, and avg. case) etc.

The bacterium formerly known asArthrobacter globiformis 193 has high 1(2)-dehydrogenase activity toward pharmaceutically important steroids, 9(11)-dehydrocortexolone in particular. The complex analysis of the morphostructural, physiological, biochemical, and phylogenetic properties of this bacterium allowed us to reclassify it into Nocardioides simplex (N. simplex VKM Ac-2033D).

System diagnosis is an integral part of any Integrated System Health Management application. Diagnostic applications make use of system information from the design phase, such as safety and mission assurance analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, hazards analysis, functional models, fault propagation models, and testability analysis. In modern process control and equipment monitoring systems, topological and analytic models of the nominal system, derived from design documents, are also employed for fault isolation and ...
