In this paper, the effect of grey level quantization on the ability of co-occurrence probability statistics to classify natural textures is studied. Generally, as a function of increasing grey levels, many of the statistics demonstrate a decrease in classification ability while a few maintain constant classification accuracy. None of the individual statistics show increasing classification accuracy throughout all grey levels. Correlation analysis is used to rationalize a preferred subset of statistics. The preferred statistics set (contrast, correlation, and ...

Although the favorable effects of physical exercise in neurorehabilitation after traumatic brain injury (TBI) are well known, detailed pathologic and functional alterations exerted by previous physical exercise on post-traumatic cerebral inflammation have been limited. In the present study, it is showed that fluid percussion brain injury (FPI) induced motor function impairment, followed by increased plasma fluorescein extravasation and cerebral—inflammation characterized by interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) increase, and decreased IL-10. In addition, myeloperoxidase (MPO) increase and Na+,K+-ATPase activity inhibition after FPI suggest that the opening of blood–brain barrier (BBB) followed by neurtrophils infiltration and cerebral inflammation may contribute to the failure of selected targets leading to secondary damage. In fact, Pearson’s correlation analysis revealed strong correlation of MPO activity increase with Na+,K+-ATPase activity inhibition in sedentary rats. Statistical analysis also revealed that previous running exercise (4 weeks) protected against FPI-induced motor function impairment and fluorescein extravasation. Previous physical training also induced IL-10 increase per se and protected against cerebral IL-1β, and TNF-α increase and IL-10 decrease induced by FPI. This protocol of physical training was effective against MPO activity increase and Na+,K+-ATPase activity inhibition after FPI. The present protection correlated with MPO activity decrease suggests that the alteration of cerebral inflammatory status profile elicited by previous physical training reduces initial damage and limits long-term secondary degeneration after TBI. This prophylactic effect may facilitate functional recovery in patients suffering from brain injury induced by TBI.

Alternaria and Cladosporium, known as the most allergenic spores were first collected by means of Durham gravimetric sampler from Eskisehir atmosphere from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2001. The daily, monthly and annual variations in spores/cm2 of Cladosporium and Alternaria were recorded. During this period, a total of 10.231 spores belonging to Cladosporium and Alternaria genera were recorded. Of these spores, 5,103 were identified in 2000 and 5,128 in 2001. While 63.09% of the total spores were those of Cladosporium, 36.91% were of Alternaria. Relationships between airborne fungal spore presence and meteorological conditions were statistically investigated. A Shapiro-Wilk test revealed that the airborne Cladosporium and Alternaria spores differed from a normal distribution. Thus, a Friedmann test was performed followed by a Pearson Correlation Analysis. The effects of rainfall, temperature and wind speed on Cladosporium and Alternaria numbers were non-significant according to the sites and months (p > 0.05), but the effects of relative humidity on Cladosporium and Alternaria numbers were significant (p < 0.01). Spore concentrations reached to their highest levels in May 2001.

Environmental microbiology studies commonly use terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) of 16S rRNA genes, for example, to analyze changes in community structure in relation to changing physicochemical and biological conditions over space and time. Although T-RFLP is most useful for comparing samples from different environments, a large number of samples makes effective analysis difficult using the Web-based tools that are currently available. To resolve this dilemma, we used a new approach for calculating data from multiple T-RFLP samples by estimating terminal fragment combinations, then applying a correlation analysis using two different fluorescent dyes generated simultaneously from all samples. This calculation was based on the expectation that the proportions of two terminal fragments from one full-length polymerase chain reaction fragment would be nearly the same in each analysis. Using this program, the oral microflora in 73 human saliva samples were analyzed, and 24 bacterial groups, with peak areas of at least 0.5% and correlation coefficients of 0.55 or greater, were identified from the T-RFs within 40 s.

Opium is a narcotic obtained from opium poppy and is the raw material of heroin for the illegal drug trade. Monitoring the illegal concentrated cultivation of opium poppy in major regions is critical for the understanding by governments and international communities of the scale of illegal drug trade. This paper investigates whether opium poppy can be discriminated from its coexisting plants using analytical-spectral-device field spectrometer data in the visible to short-wave infrared spectral range. Canopy spectral measurements were conducted during three different growth periods of opium poppy. A synthetic method with three analysis levels was applied to discriminate opium poppy from other species and to select optimal bands for opium poppy discrimination. First, the Mann-Whitney U-test method was used to test the spectral reflectance difference between opium poppy and coexisting crops at each wavelength. Then, the Jeffries-Matusita distance and band correlation analysis were conducted to select the optimal wavebands for discriminating opium poppy using the significant wavebands from the test results. Finally, classification and regression tree analysis was employed to validate the classification accuracy based on the selected optimal wavebands. The results indicated that the spectral reflectance of opium poppy was significantly different from that of coexisting crops in many surveyed wavebands, and opium poppy could be discriminated using a field survey spectrum at canopy level. The best time for discriminating opium poppy from coexisting crops was around flowering time. This paper provided the prerequisite for monitoring opium poppy using satellite remote sensing data in some regions of concern.

The islands of the Mediterranean Basin probably represent some of the ecosystems globally most at risk from invasive species. Compared to neighbouring mainland areas, island floras have a significantly higher proportion of alien plant species. Yet the circumstances that have led to this situation and the subsequent consequences of plant invasions remain poorly understood. This knowledge deficit is addressed in this paper through a comprehensive review of recent research findings. Most alien plants occurring on Mediterranean islands have been introduced intentionally for economic purposes although there still exists a sizeable proportion that arrives by accident. A wide range of alien plant functional types have colonized Mediterranean islands. While certain traits appear important, e.g. reproductive strategies, species characteristics are closely allied to the habitats invaded. Large-scale biogeographic studies have highlighted a strong correlation between local and regional abundan...

Mathematical models are utilized to approximate various highly complex engineering, physical, environmental, social, and economic phenomena. Model parameters exerting the most influence on model results are identified through a 'sensitivity analysis'. A comprehensive review is presented of more than a dozen sensitivity analysis methods. This review is intended for those not intimately familiar with statistics or the techniques utilized for sensitivity analysis of computer models. The most fundamental of sensitivity techniques utilizes partial differentiation whereas the simplest approach requires varying parameter values one-at-a-time. Correlation analysis is used to determine relationships between independent and dependent variables. Regression analysis provides the most comprehensive sensitivity measure and is commonly utilized to build response surfaces that approximate complex models.

The field experiment was conducted on the seasonal incidence of spotted pod borer, Maruca vitrata Geyer and gram pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera Hubner on black gram at Chatha Farm, SKUAST-Jammu during summer 2018. The data on seasonal fluctuations of spotted pod borer and gram pod borer larval population was first observed during 10 th standard week with an initial population of 0.36 larvae/ m 2 area and 0.46 larvae/ m 2 area, respectively. The maximum larval population of M. vitrata (12.53 larvae/ m 2 area) was recorded during 15 th standard week, whereas, the maximum incidence of H. armigera (9.53 larvae/m 2 area) was recorded 18 th standard week of sown crop. Thereafter, the spotted pod borer and gram pod borer larval population decreased till 23 rd standard week up to 4.42 larvae and 0.26 larvae/ m 2 area, respectively on the same crop. A highly significant positive correlation was existed between weekly mean maximum temperature (0.633**) and spotted pod borer larval density, positively significant correlation with minimum temperature (0.586*), significantly negative correlation with relative humidity morning (-0.551*) and evening (-0.593*). While, the positive correlation between weekly mean maximum temperature (0.466) and gram pod borer larval density, positive correlation with minimum temperature (0.362), negative correlation with relative humidity morning (-0.457) and a significant evening (-0.498*) and non-significant negative correlation with rainfall (-0.252) and significant positive correlation with wind speed (0.489*) were recorded. The regression analysis indicated that all the weather parameters together were responsible for a significant variation of 62.50 and 54.10 per cent on the larval incidence of spotted pod borer and gram pod borer, respectively.

Document (text) classification is a common method in e-business, facilitating users in the tasks such as document collection, analysis, categorization and storage. Semantic analysis can help to improve the performance of document classification. Though having been considered when designing previous methods for automatic document classification, more focus should be given to semantics with the increase number of content-rich electronic documents, forum posts or blogs online, which can reduce human workload by a great margin. This paper proposes a novel semantic document classification approach aiming to resolve two types of semantic problems: (1) polysemy problem, by using a novel semantic similarity computing strategy (SSC) and (2) synonym problem, by proposing a novel strong correlation analysis method (SCM). Experiments show that our strategies can help to improve the performance of the baseline methods.

Researchers are trying to find new ways of finding and pointing out Cybersecurity vulnerabilities by using inno-vative metrics. New theoretical proposals need to be tested in a real environment, using Cybersecurity tools applications that can validate the applicability of those in real life. This paper presents an experimental flexible en-vironment, which can be used for the validation of sev-eral theoretical claims based on an “easy to use” archi-tecture implemented in a cloud environment. The frame-work provides a much shorter time setup in the real world as well as a much better understanding based on log analysis provided by MS Azure. As a proof of con-cept, we have tested three different claims and provided proves of results such as screenshots and log samples.

Five varieties of maize (Zea mays) made up of two open pollinated and three hybrids were grown at Kogi State University student research and demonstration farm Anyigba, (Lat 7° 29 1 and Long 70 11 1 E) which lies in the Guinea savanna agro ecological zone during the raining season of 2014 to determine the contributions of various yield components to the final grain yield of the crop. The experiment was laid in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. In the trial, it was found that yield characters such as number of seed/cob, cob length, cob/plant, and 100-seed weight exerted much influence on the seed yield and was found to be significantly (p≤0.05) and positively associated with seed yield/plot. However the number of seed/cob and cob length contributed 69% (0.83 2) and 74% (0.86 2) respectively to the total seed yield variations. The path coefficient analysis indicates that cob length exert the strongest influence (1.70) on grain yield followed by the number of seed/cob (1.50) and 100-seed weight (1.00). Keywords: Direct effect and Indirect effect; residual factor (R); coefficient of determination (R 2).
