Recently, in addition to autonomous vehicle technology research and development, machine learning methods have been used to predict a driver's condition and emotions in order to provide information that will improve road safety. A driver's condition can be estimated not only by basic characteristics such as gender, age, and driving experience, but also by a driver's facial expressions, bio-signals, and driving behaviours. Recent developments in video processing using machine learning have enabled images obtained from cameras to be analysed with high accuracy. Therefore, based on the relationship between facial features and a driver's drowsy state, variables that reflect facial features have been established. In this paper, we proposed a method for extracting detailed features of the eyes, the mouth, and positions of the head using OpenCV and Dlib library in order to estimate a driver's level of drowsiness.

With the increase in automative population, accident rates are rising rapidly, one of the major reasons is the state of drowsiness or fatigue. Such fatal incidents can be prevented if the driver is warned in time. With time, several drowsiness alarm systems are been implemented, the system monitors driver's movements through various techniques, one of the most considerable one is face detection, Open Computer Vision is widely used to detect driver's movements for a long period of time. A comparative study on different types of approach is summarized in this paper. Driver’s inattentiveness is one of the main causes for most accidents related to vehicle crashes. Safe driving is the major concept in the societies to reduce accidents. Long distance driving cause driver fatigue due to which heavy accident occurs of vehicles
like cars, aero planes, trucks etc. So it is very necessary to prevent the accidents all over the world. This paper presents the procedure of driver’s drowsiness detection system which measures the drowsiness and fatigue level of driver. An initial buzzer is used to alert the driver after the system detects that the driver is in drowsy condition. In this system a camera is placed in front of driver’s face in car which records the video of driver. The MATLAB will be used to detect the eye of driver that is conducted using the process of extraction of face image from the live video and in case if it detects the eye closure for certain threshold time period then it beeps the alarm to aware driver. We also describe the procedure to measure the open and close of eye so from that we can accurately detect the drowsiness and fatigue level. The main criteria of this system must be that it is highly non-intrusive and the driver should not be responsible to give any kind of feedback to system

Mealtimes and feeding schedules may interfere with the circadian system and impact sleep. The practice of intermittent fasting (IF) in its different formats is increasing worldwide. However, most studies addressing the effect of IF on circadian rhythms, daytime sleepiness, and sleep architecture have been conducted during diurnal IF for Ramadan. In this article, we analyze the effect of diurnal IF on the circadian clock, sleep, and daytime sleepiness. In free-living, unconstrained environments that do not control for lifestyle changes such as sleep/wake schedules, sleep duration, and light exposure, studies have demonstrated sudden and significant delays in bedtime and wake time during diurnal intermittent fasting for Ramadan. However, subsequent studies that accounted for lifestyle factors and sleep/wake patterns have reported no changes in markers of the biological clock, daytime sleepiness, or sleep parameters. Nevertheless , several researchers have demonstrated a reduction in the proportion of rapid eye movement stage sleep as the significant alteration in sleep architecture during fasting.

Microcontroller – Based Embedded System for Drowsiness Detection and Vibration Alertness is a prototype that helps in indicating an individual who has the signs of drowsiness. The purpose of this study is to design and develop a microcontroller-based embedded system that can detect drowsiness and that can alert the nurses through vibration alertness. Shift workers like nurses often have the tendency to fall asleep thus also showing a lack of energy and a sense of fatigue due to drowsiness during working hours particularly at night or graveyard schedules. According to the proponents' survey that was conducted for the nurses from Callejo Medical Clinic, 14 out of 15 nurses (93.33%) said that drowsiness affects their duties. This paper aims to develop a proposed study to produce a hardware that consists of a (1) Si1143 Proximity Sensor that would detect the pulse rate of a nurse and an embedded (2) PIC16F689 Microcontroller in which it would process the vibration when the pulse rate drops below its normal condition (i.e. 59 BPM and below). MPLAB X IDE v.3.10 was used as the software for programming, the microcontroller.

 Abstract—By exploiting a database of 109 persons including two states to detect: sleepy or not, we have designed a system for automatically detecting drowsiness of a driver at the wheel. By filtering the alpha wave and by using the power spectral density of that same wave, our data were analyzed using the percentiles as measures of dispersion. A threshold discriminating the two states was found, which helped to highlight the area of the brain responsible for the state of drowsiness for driver. Thus, number of EEG signals to be analyzed will reduce and processing time of this system will be decreased. With cross validation technique, data are trained and tested, to get result with accuracy of 80% or higher. It shows that the EEG could be used helping experts in the development of an intelligent system for detecting state of drowsy driving with only ten signals by person.

Drowsiness or sleepiness is one of the major concerns for drivers often in night time. In recent years, road accidents are occurred highly due to fatigue of driver. It may cause several deaths and injuries. According to WHO, India has contributes highest number of death rate due to road accidents in the world. In this survey, reported that at every 4 minutes one person dies in road accident. In this method, driver attention is monitored continuously for detecting drowsiness or any kind of sleep disorder by using Electroencephalogram (EEG).Through EEG the brain activities of driver should be analyses constantly. Based on the brain signal levels, their performance must be calculated and alertness also given to that driver. It resists the level of accidents that might be happen. And also reduces the ratio of deaths and injuries because of drowsiness of the driver.

Biometric information is used in a variety of industrial fields. Heart rate and respiration rate, in particular, are widely applied not only in medical institutions but also in life safety. However, a sensor must be worn or directly attached to the human body to obtain a bio signal, which is inconvenient and limits its application. In this study, a 24 GHz radar sensor module is developed, and an algorithm is implemented by analyzing the frequency and peak values of a human participant’s heartbeat and respiration signals in an unconstrained state. In the experiment, the existing ECG equipment (MP150) and radar sensor module are compared. The results indicate that the average value of MP150 is higher than that of the Doppler sensor in terms of all parameters; however, the deviation of the Doppler sensor is small, and the bias is low. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the HRV decreases in the drowsy state compared to that in the wakeful state in both devices. These results confirm that bio-signals change during drowsiness, and conversely, drowsiness can be detected through changes in bio-signals, which is a significant finding.

The level of stress for drivers will have a greater impact while driving. Driver stress may affect driver performance and create many accidents. Sometimes many innocent lives are lost because of driver stress level. Stress is something we cannot able to physically see and identify, hence different types of sensors like heartbeat, pupil dilation, blood pressure, respiration rate, skin response are used to predict stress level of the driver and driver behavior while driving. Driver behavior parameters like ECG, eye blinking, speed, steering angle, turn signal can be monitored while driving. These parameters might be helpful to observe driver’s distractions as well. In this project, to overcome the challenge we have proposed real data collection, IoT based sharing and data analytics. To obtain driver stress, we are planning to integrate heartbeat and eye blink sensors to predict the stress level and drowsiness of the driver during driving. In real time these sensors would be embedded in the driver glass. The real time data are processed from NetBeans as an excel file to R programming studio for data analysis.

We tend to develop a prototype of a helmet system that monitors soldier's physiological state. Here with help of eye blink sensor we can determine the drowsiness. By sending an alarm to the walkie talkie through a wireless device, the person can awake, when he/she feels drowsy. The heart rate is an important factor in the cardiovascular system which is measured using timer circuit. Brain is comprised of a number of interconnected nerve cells or neurons. Brain glucose level is an important factor for the communication of cells. Therefore the level of brain glucose is measured using sensor.
