Wireless body area networks (WBANs) a special type of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in which sensor nodes to actualize continuous wearable wellbeing observing of patients are able to provide improved healthcare services in a distributed infrastructure less environments. However, the mobile node, due to less battery power, can easily suffer from the problem of energy level when control packets are transfer among nodes—a problem that can occurs by the fact that some sensor nodes may select wrong cluster head with inappropriate path and waste the resources. Although many energy efficient methods have been designed for the traditional sensor networks, there has been limited focus on incorporating WBANs into energy efficient schemes. Therefore, in order to incorporate above issue we revisit the already designed traditional energy efficient methods with cluster head selection protocols and optimal path transformation. Therefore, we encourage researchers to insert WBANs with existing met...

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a distributed, infrastructure-less and decentralized network. A routing protocol in MANET is used to find routes between mobile nodes to facilitate communication within the network. Numerous routing protocols have been proposed for MANET. Those routing protocols are designed to adaptively accommodate for dynamic unpredictable changes in network's topology. The mobile nodes in MANET are often powered by limited batteries and network lifetime relies heavily on the energy consumption of nodes. In consequence, the lack of a mobile node can lead to network partitioning. In this paper we analyse, evaluate and measure the energy efficiency of three prominent MANET routing protocols namely DSR, AODV and OLSR in addition to modified protocols. These routing protocols follow the reactive and the proactive routing schemes. A discussion and comparison highlighting their particular merits and drawbacks are also presented. Evaluation study and simulations are performed using NS-2 and its accompanying tools for analysis and investigation of results.

Decision making in decentralized and dynamic environments is challenging due to the continuous changes in the network topology and the absence of specific nodes that are responsible to take decisions. These challenges are increased in case of sensor networks deployments. In this paper, a novel approach is presented for realizing distributed data fusion and reasoning in wireless sensor networks. The approach is based on the storage and retrieval of data in stable overlay networks that abstract the physical network topology and the design of proper mechanisms for the semantic annotation of the available information in order to be used in the decision making process.

—Increase in traffic over internet by large number of mobile devices results into high energy consumption on network devices. In this paper, we address the necessity to reduce the energy consumption in a campus network that includes both wired and wireless network devices. Specifically, we propose dynamic link rate adaptation mechanism on Software Defined Network (SDN) switches and control power consumption on Access Points (APs) by using users association to an AP. Moreover, our online flow routing approach dynamically routes user traffic in order to decrease the overall energy consumption of whole network while taking in consideration Quality of Service (QoS), acceptance ratio on forwarding table and link BandWidth (BW) constraints. Our simulation result shows that our approach results in 3.69% less power consumption, and furthermore, there is no congested links nor overflow in flow table as compared to Dijkstra Ant colony Power (DAPower) that has 2 congested links for 150 users in a network, each generating 34 flows.

— Wireless sensor network (WSN) is an application of wireless ad-hoc networks that is taking an increasing role in everyday lives. Because the energy efficiency of routing protocols is one of the major challenges facing WSN this paper aims to provide a survey on WSN that focuses on their ability to save power and contributes to prolonging the lifetime of WSN. The survey displays the traditional classification of WSN routing techniques running in the network layer, which classifies it into 3 categories: flat, hierarchal and location based. It is then further classified according to the protocol operation. This paper adds a new branch to the traditional classification that includes the Data reporting method, which was previously just a constraint for WSN routing, but now shall be considered a category since if highly influences the routing protocol in term of energy consumption. As the more frequent the data reporting occur the more transmissions take place consuming more of the batte...
