Obradovicite-NaCu (original) (raw)

A valid IMA mineral species

Formula:

Na2(H2O)17Cu(H2O)6][Mo8As2Fe3+3O34(OH)3]

Lustre:

Sub-Adamantine, Vitreous

Crystal System:

Orthorhombic

Name:

Named for its relationship to other obradovicite group minerals. The double suffix corresponds to the dominant cations in two different types of non-framework cation sites; in this case sodium and copper.

First recognized as a potential hypothetical member of the Betpakdalite group (IMA 10-E). Later in 2011, approved by IMA as a valid species. Found on the type specimen of obradovicite-KCu (formerly obradovicite) from the Chuquicamata mine, Chile.
