Entertainment law, also referred to as media law, is legal services provided to the entertainment industry. These services in entertainment law overlap with intellectual property law. Intellectual property has many moving parts that include trademarks, copyright, and the "Right of Publicity". However, the practice of entertainment law often involves questions of employment law, contract law, torts, labor law, bankruptcy law, immigration, securities law, security interests, agency, right of privacy, defamation, advertising, criminal law, tax law, International law (especially Private international law), and insurance law.

El concepto de Derecho de Entretenimiento surgió inicialmente en el ámbito anglosajón; su práctica supone un enfoque multidisciplinario del Derecho y por ello tiene implicaciones en el ámbito civil y mercantil. La tutela de los intereses jurídicos como el honor, la imagen, la intimidad, la autoría, la marca, la patente, el diseño industrial, la competencia pueden verse afectados según el uso que se haga en los medios de comunicación y publicidad. Así el ámbito al que se extiende es muy amplio, obteniendo protección desde el Derecho Penal, el Derecho Laboral, el Derecho Mercantil y el Derecho Civil prioritariamente. La tutela de estos derechos se plasma con leyes tales como la Ley Orgánica 1/ 1982, de 5 de mayo sobre protección civil del derecho al honor, a la intimidad personal y familiar y a la propia imagen, La Ley 24/2015 de 24 de julio de Patentes, el Reglamento 316/2017, de 31 de marzo de ejecución de la Ley de Patentes. El Real Decreto 55/2002, de 18 de enero, sobre explotación y cesión de invenciones realizadas en los entes públicos de investigación.
