The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, ou simplement Stationers' Company, est la corporation des papetiers, imprimeurs et éditeurs de la Cité de Londres. Fondée en 1403, agrée par charte royale en 1557, elle officie au nom de toute l'industrie de contenu et de communication écrite et visuelle londonienne, activités incluant la presse périodique, le marché du livre, le design graphique et le matériel de bureau. 47e corporation de la Cité (pour un total de 110), l'un des premiers enjeux politiques de cette organisation fut l'établissement dès 1556 du Registre des Libraires (Stationers' Register) puis, à partir de 1611, le contrôle de l'impression de la Bible du roi Jacques. Le Copyright Act de 1710 permet d'aménager les privilèges de cette organisation, accordant à l'auteur une véritable personnalité juridique, ainsi qu'une durée limitée de ses droits. Sa mission revient à réglementer et discipliner l’industrie, définir une bonne conduite et préserver ses propres privilèges. En 1735, le Engraving Copyright Act (dite « Loi Hogarth ») permet de mieux protéger le droit d'auteur des graveurs originaux. Elle fonde une école destinée à la formation des enfants des membres de cette industrie en 1861, sur Fleet Street (fermée en 1983). Elle est partie prenante dans la (en). The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers (until 1937 the Worshipful Company of Stationers), usually known as the Stationers' Company, is one of the livery companies of the City of London. The Stationers' Company was formed in 1403; it received a royal charter in 1557. It held a monopoly over the publishing industry and was officially responsible for setting and enforcing regulations until the enactment of the Statute of Anne, also known as the Copyright Act of 1710. Once the company received its charter, "the company’s role was to regulate and discipline the industry, define proper conduct and maintain its own corporate privileges." The company members, including master, wardens, assistants, liverymen, freemen and apprentices are mostly involved with the modern visual and graphic communications industries that have evolved from the company's original trades. These include printing, papermaking, packaging, office products, engineering, advertising, design, photography, film and video production, publishing of books, newspapers and periodicals and digital media. The company's principal purpose nowadays is to provide an independent forum where its members can advance the interests (strategic, educational, training and charitable) of the industries associated with the company.
