About Bario-olgiteHide

This section is currently hidden. Click the show button to view.

Formula:

(Ba,Sr)(Na,Sr,REE)2Na(PO4)2 ·

Name:

For the chemical composition and its relationship to olgite

Originally considered to be Ba(Na,Sr,REE)2Na[PO4]2, the barium-dominant analogue of olgite, but then proposed for discreditation after the crystal structure of olgite was revised and found to be also Ba-dominant [Sokolowa, E. et al. (2005)]. However, since then, Sr-dominant olgites have been found and the discreditation proposal has been withdrawn. "Olgite" itself may in future become a series name rather than a species, and bario-olgite now has the revised formula (Ba,Sr)(Na,Sr,REE)2Na[PO4]2.
