Mineral Species sorted by the element Tb Terbium (original) (raw)

Terbium (Tb) Element Properties

Atomic Mass 158.92534
Atomic Number 65
Name Origins Named after Ytterby, Sweden.
Year Discovered 1843
Discovery Credits Discovered by C. G. Mosander at Stockholm, Sweden.
Remarks Silvery white metal, rare member of the lanthanide (rare earth) group. Slowly oxidized by air, reacts with cold water, Used in solid state devices and lasers.Diagnostic tests: There are no simple diagnostic tests to identify Terbium. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy is commonly employed to identify and analyze members of the Rare-Earth group elements.
