Having greater women participations in the workforce potentially enhances the country's prospects for growth. Various agencies work towards increasing women's participations in the labour force. Malaysian society has also grown to expect that women 'work' to contribute to the family's economy, and to the nation's-the belief that has somewhat become a convention. However, it is observed that the race to get women to 'roll-up her sleeves' economically, is not without worrying downside trends, even at the current rate of only 55.5% of Malaysian women in the labour force. Are we overlooking an important and crucial factor in the equation for Nationbuilding? This paper attempts to examine the fundamental aspects of motherhood, especially early motherhood, as an important and crucial factor that is under-emphasized. The paper will also deliberate on how the above has affected individuals' and families' well-beings, thus putting constrains and conflicts in the family, society, and the Nation at large. The paper employs analyses of relevant news and journal articles, observations of day-today realities and social media feeds to discover the situation at hand. Finally, it draws guidance from references in the Qur'an and Prophetic tradition to propose a more realistic, well-balanced approach. The demand to get women's economic participation towards National growth is real. However, this must be in such ways as to not endanger and threaten personal, familial, and societal holistic well beings. The roles of motherhood, especially early motherhood must be included in the equation. Thus, the necessity to empower women to reconsider their priorities-be it against societal convention. Afterall, Nation-building requires far more than economic prosperity.

Reacting against the challenges imposed by modern and post-modern tendencies, is the distinct global phenomenon of Islamic ―integrated education‖. But what constitutes as Islamically integrated science education? Analyses of various secondary school curricula, syllabi and textbooks of natural science implemented by a number of Islamic secondary schools that we visited in Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as in Brunei, Singapore, Southern Thailand, Mindanao and Ontario show very little integration if any. This article presents an integration framework for natural science, based on the Qur‘ānic notion of ―ūlū al-albāb‖ and Ghazālian discourse, especially on the qalb. Certain conventional aspects of natural science undergo holistic reposition, reinterpretation and reorientation from the Qur‘ānic worldview, whereby humanity's relationship with God, with itself and with the cosmos fo...

In turn, this type of education results in disharmonies in the person, family, society and the environment. Yet post-modern trends are opening up opportunities for non-conventional alternatives as solutions. This article presents the major rationales for integrating the Qur'anic worldview and the natural sciences. It touches upon the fundamental elements of the Qur'anic worldview in relation to the studies of nature, specifically the notion of "reading" the two Books of Allah (i.e. al-Qur'ān and the Open Book of the Cosmos) as well as humanity's relation with Allah, with itself and with the cosmos. This article briefly discusses the worldviews that have brought about the natural sciences to their current pedestal, the ensuing environmental and humanitarian crises of the contemporary world, and experts' responses in the face of these crises. It puts forward an integrated model for the study of the natural sciences based on a synthesis of al-Ghazālῑ's methodology of integration and discourse on the qalb, and the Ūlū al-Albāb notion of the Qur'an. The integrated model is for use in Islamic secondary education, where certain aspects of the natural sciences undergo a discreet but holistic reposition, reinterpretation and reorientation from the framework of, and organically infused with the Qur'anic worldview. It is believed that such integration is able to address the conflicts and disharmonies, and in the long run restore the equilibrium, not just within the Muslim person and the ummah but also to bring about sustained goodness for humanity in general and the environments in which they reside.

This trend may be associated to parents' increased Islamic awareness in lieu of the islah (reformation), tajdid (renewal) and ihya' (revival) movements in Malaysia and elsewhere. The International Islamic school (established in September 1998) is unique in that it is the first international Islamic school offering a more Islamically integrated education in Malaysia, arguably in the world as well. The chapter presents a detailed case study on the International Islamic School, examining its history, founding philosophy, vision and mission, its academic and non-academic curricula, and its problems and challenges. The chapter is written based on the author's twelve years of experiences and observations as an academic staff, an administrator and a parent of the school, as well as on the findings of a survey conducted in 2010, while the autho...

Many contemporary Islamic educational institutions in the Muslim world have been established since then, each with their somewhat distinctive modes of integration. How much have the Muslims progressed towards true integration of the Qur’anic Worldview in the curricula of the natural sciences in secondary Islamic education, whose students are at critical stages of their cognitive, affective, spiritual, social, and ethical developments? This article presents a qualitative report on findings from field research that analysed a few samples of integration models at a number of Islamic secondary schools in Malaysia and Indonesia, in relation to the ideal that integration constitutes a full merger or an organic fusion between knowledge that is revealed and that which is acquired through reason.
